Two titles: UEFA Cup winner 1988 (vs Espanyol Barcelona, 0:3 on the road, 3:0 at home, won after penalty shootout) and German Cup winner 1993 (vs Hertha BSC Reserves 1:0)

And to answer your stadium question: 22.500 is the capacity.

    Thanks Olaf...

Funny how so many people talk with disgust about Bayer like they have won a ridiculous number of titles!

there are only 3 teams in the bundesliga that have fewer trophies: bochum (0), wolfsburg (0), freiburg (0). 2 team have also 2 titles only: hertha, rostock (in the gdr).

btw: leverkusen is a company club that fills their stadium with lots of free tickets for workers or very cheap season tickets (some workers there have season tickets just to get in for bayern, dortmund, cologne, gladbach or schlacke).

btw, bayer wasn't able to sell all of its tickets for their first(!) champions league final back in 2002! was something about 10k+ (as far as i remember it was 14.000). to avoid the disgrace of an empty leverkusen section they gave the tickets away for free....plus the bus trip to glasgow for free!!!!!

to top that they also offered the final packages at the "Sporthochschule Köln" ("sports academy cologne"). (1.fc) cologne are leverkusen's arch rivals!

p.s.: it is also well known that volkswagen splash out tickets for wolfsburg in the company (curiously even for the recent bayern match)

seems to me that this issue has been discussed several times. my last 2 statements to this and then i'm done with this topic. you can dismiss them, read them or whatever:

-as your are living in germany you surely know "doppelpass" on dsf. can you remember edgar geenen (former 1860 nürnberg sporting director) being invited to this show some weeks after leverkusen lost in nürnberg (33th match day) and thus the championship (dortmund won in hamburg 4-3 and topped the table)? he was still astonished how few leverkusen fans were travelling with their club to southern germany. he couldn't believe that they even sent back some of their tickets (10% of frankenstadion's capacity). would bayern, schlacke or bvb have been in the situation, that they can win the bundesliga on the 33th match day already, the stadium would have been packed with red-white, royal-blue, black-yellow fans (5.500 in the guest section+many black-yellows on the other stands were in hamburg) .

-i give you a clue: easy question->easy answer:
what do you think, why the bayarena (22,500) isn't expanded yet? "sold out" since 3 or more years and yet no intention to expand or build a new stadium? the world cup ahead and bayer (company) eager to be represented at this venue and a required capacity of 40k+ in mind, they still are not going to add some new seats to the stadium?!?

Regarding the first aspect: Bayer has a pretty new fanbase, collected over the last years and this nationwide. Many of the local soccer fans support other traditional clubs. That's why you rather have modern fans in Leverkusen, who are not willing to travel that far. I am a Leverkusen supporter, but not in my wildest dreams would I even consider to travel to Nuremberg - in fact I'm not even travelling to Leverkusen very often (and this btw mainly as it is impossible to buy tickets on the matchday and I can't plan very far ahead in the future).

Second part: have you ever been to Leverkusen? How do you want to expand the stadium? There are public streets directly next to the stadium. The real estate is not bigger. There are plans for an expansion, but probably it won't work (or at least I hope so, as the plans I saw were very bad). An extension to 40.000 of course makes no sense, after all Leverkusen is a city with 160.000 citizens and a one-million-city with an own club is no 10 miles away. It's much easier to grow a fanbase in the Ruhrarea with 10 million people, who just have two major clubs.

You are confusing Bayer Leverkusen with Bayern Munich.

    No I'm Not..

confusing the 2...bayer and bayern. I know Bayern has a ton of trophies and bayer doesn't have that many, BUT people still get upset about Bayer and their success like they are Man Utd or something.

I have never heard of anything like this. What the normal complaints about Bayer are
    1) Plastic club
    2) Propped up by chemical company
    3) No "true" supporters
    4) Treated Baby Jesus Landon Donovan poorly
    5) Perennial 1st losers

I have never heard about anyone comparing the club to Man U in any form and remember Man U is the bayern Munich of England, and not even as bad.

    :D
