Ok so who won. I'm asuming Prinze gets the boot. But what about silver and brinze. I'm too lazy to look.

Also I'm a bit confused about the golden ball thing. The pictures of the final show both Maren and Prinze holding up the golden ball.

What is the criteria for the the golden ball? Isn't that the MVP of the tourney?

Prinze won the Golden Ball (MVP) with Svensson second.

Personally, Svensson's performance was what helped carry the Swedes as far as they went. Prinze may have scored a lot of goals, but in the close games she wasn't the one scoring the game winners.

    somewhere on earth

if we grouped with the likes of Argentina or south Korea, one of our players more likely to win the golden ball award

Prinz had an awesome tournament and the only match Germany won by less than three goals was the final. I saw all of Germany's matches and feel that Maren Meinert would have also been a good choice for MVP of the entire tournament.

Which is not true. We finished third. the MVP of the tournament is rarely on a third place team.

If you meant the golden boot/shoe, I still wouldn't be so sure.

    Ive often wondered about this....

A team like the USA has very balanced scoring. In a lot of tourny's, except maybe 91, we got a handfull of US players with 2 goals, some with three. But when was the last time one player carried the load scoring wise? Akers in 91?

So then you look at other teams where only 2 or 3 players do all the scoring and as a consequence they have one player with like 5 or 6 goals. what would thier output be if thier team was a bit more balanced?

    does that make sense?

I'm not trying to diminish the effort of any of these players, by no means. it's just something i think about.

    Ok, Sweden was tough.

But with the US instead in our group Prinz would still have scored the goals.

Is that about this specific example? Let's see...

    Germany had these players scoring:

    Prinz 7
    Meinert 4
    Garefrekes 4
    Wiegmann 2
    Minnert 2
    Müller 2
    Gottschlich 1
    Pohlers 1
    Künzer 1
    Wunderlich 1

Doesn't seem that unbalanced to me. ;)

    Read the post again.
I was speaking in general terms about the US team over the years compared to other teams over the years.

if i'm not mistaken Grafekes who scored the goal from set piece not run of play and the 2 goals in the end were expected to happen because we were pussing forward heavily for equalize so, they weren't consider quality goals but, i'm still giving Germany credit for beating us, we all love Meinert and Prinz...

    Golden ball

I think the Golden ball should have gone to Meinert really, no female player has impressed me as much as she has, not even Mia Hamm.
The creativity off her boot was simply unreal, and had Prinz's goalscoring touch been a bit better, she could have easily had 10 goals. If u watched the matches you would know the 7 goals that came from Prinz was a reflection of a very creative German midfield. I know Meinert was considered a forward but really her behavior on the pitch was that of an attacking midfielder, except in the semi final and final she really did seem more like a true forward.
    Silver ball was correctly Svensson.
Bronze should have been Prinz I feel
