Chivas USA sends Jeff Stewart to RSL for a TI slot. Had to see that coming.

Matt Taylor is the only gringo left, right? Better brush up on that Spanish.

No surprise there. I expect Chivas to trade for even more TI slots...

Did RSL inquire into the fitness of Mr. Stewart? He hasn't played since the first month of 2003.

Yes, but think of the embarrassment if they lose. As a son of mine observed after a pick-up game, "Just because you speak Spanish doesn't mean you can play soccer."

So does this trade infer that you can also trad for a SI slot? Also, isn't Eze from a St Kitts?

What on earth are you talking about? They've got Pablo Brenes, Erick Scott, Nelson Akwari, and Andy Williams. And, more importantly, they haven't indicated that they would be using non-soccer criteria (be it ethnicity or language) to evaluate and select players.

I'd also like to note that this is a terrible trade for RSL. I don't know what the price of transitional international slots ought to be - maybe not a whole lot - but it certainly ought to be more than a marginal central defender of questionable health. Strange, strange decision.

But the odds of them filling all 5 TI spots and all 3 SI spots seems to me to have been very unlikely. They have 3 allocations, 6 discoveries, and 6 draft picks. First allocations rumored to be Mathis. So they might as well get something for the TI spot. Maybe they could have gotten more, but Stewart IF healthy is probably of decent value against the cap.
