If they play with the same passion and fire as they did against the Scots, I have total faith in our team. However, they have not been notorious for doing always so this campaign... "The German NT is like a chocolate box; you never know what is coming out of it." (Forrest Gump) I don't like that Rau is injured, so that we have to tinker on the left side again. Any ideas who might play there? Probably some player like Kehl (or Ernst) ? I don't think that Rahn will get another chance, considering his reviews after the Iceland away match... Even if it's in Hamburg, his home stadium. And Hartmann...oh boy.
The continued inclusion of Hartman is a complete joke. There are better LB in Bundesliga 2 than him( Stefan Blank). Ernst is playing on the left of the midfield in Werder with Staltieri behind him. I don’t know how well he could adapt to playing wing-back in a 3-5-2 or a LB in a 4-4-2. I would still prefer Rahn, simply for the fact that he’s left footed.
Yes without Rau in there, the left midfield position is a real problem. Whats up with Ziege and Boehme, they still injured??? I dont think Kehl would fit that position well...I would go with Ernst or Rahn.
Ziege is still hurt, Boehme too, but he is crap anyway. If Rudi sticks to his lineup against scotland it would be possible to play with ernst, because he is one of the best passers in the german bundesliga and doesn´t make many mistakes. Hartmann would be possible too, because he is better when he plays as a midfielder instaed of defender. I don´t think that Kehl would be an option for the left midfield, because he loses too many balls.
Give me a *#*#*#*#ing break!!!! If we can't tie or beat Iceland at home then we don't deserve to play in Euro 2004. I'm not the least bit worried about this game. I will be much more interested in England vs Turkey.
I don't think there will be a full-time webcast - but you'll get some live coverage at http://www.ndr2.de/ [klick on "live hören]
Thank heavens we're in with a good showing. This game was being shown live on German TV here in the US. I wish I wasn't so deadgum cheap and would have bought the service...
just got back from the AOL - don't think i've seen germany look so strong since WC02 - they always looked in control, playing very freely and allowing iceland very little - the first goal came on a clinical finsh from ballack after a brilliant backheel lob from bobic
How did Hinkel and Rahn play? I believe Kuranyi is becoming a regular first 11 in our squad... thank goodness !!!
hinkel, rahn and kuranyi all played excellent matches - rudi said he was quite pleased with the three of them
