It should be pointed out that: *DC (98) and LA (00 though it was played in January of 01) also won the CONCACAF Champions' Cup. *Rochester also won A-League titles in 98, 00 and 01. *Some DC fans will make some noise about the Interamerican Cup they won in 98 but I've always viewed that more as a glorified exhibition as A) there was no money involved, B) both legs were played in the US and C) it isn't held every year, hadn't been played for a couple of years before DC played in it and, to my knowledge, hasn't played since. Don't get me wrong - beating the Brazilians was a great accomplishment but it wasn't like they won a title that is fought for every year.
The Revs won the Cesar Ragazzi trophy in Italy during pre-season a few years back. Since they don't have any trophies in the case, nor look to add any soon, this is about the best we can do.
Is this the year of the triple? Chicago in the Finals of the US Open Cup, have a good shot to win the Supporter's Shield. Plus that MLS Cup thing.
Re: Re: Domestic Titles since 1996 The only one-off trophies you've won, you've won against New England. Con-grat-u-frickin-lations.
Tampa and Miami won Supporters Shields in years when they didn't win either cup. And now they're gone. Is there a Supporters Shield curse?
No Curse, LA won the SS in a year they didn't win either cup either, and since they've won a few Cups, another SS and have their own SSS...
Re: Re: Domestic Titles since 1996 Rochester sticks out like a sore thumb, but I guess they give A-League teams the "we can do it!"
Or...you can look at MLS team history this way...per the MLS website: Total Total Points per Points Games Game Team '96-'03 '96-'03 Chi 301 179 1.682 LA 395 242 1.632 DC 342 242 1.413 Cbus 319 242 1.318 Dallas 315 242 1.302 Miami 158 122 1.295 SJ 308 242 1.273 Col 308 242 1.273 KC 306 243 1.259 Tampa 235 187 1.257 NY/NJ 301 242 1.244 NE 274 243 1.128 Let me know if there are any errors
Good question. Its regular season only. I just put this up since its interesting way to compare the teams' long term success in the league vs the hardware they've won.
Useless Info The Brookhattan franchise (based, as the name would imply, in New York) won the only American treble in 1945, winning the ASL title, the Lewis Cup (the ASL League Cup) and the Open Cup.
