I have written a transcript of the USA vs Czech World Cup game last year, as part of an effort to analyze the commentary teams from 2002 and 2006. However, there are a few spots where I'm having a hard time deciphering what exactly has been said. There are 10 instances, 1 of which is actually DOB. Can anyone please help me with these?

Download this 1 mb zip file at Rapidspace or Sendshare which contains the audio clips, and please post what you hear in this thread. Thanks.

    Clips

    1. You have Plasil on the outside, ??? get up and down the wing.
    2. He's already had a ??? to take advantage of that.
    3. ??? you see the goal.
    4. Right now he's had to dribble ??? trying to go inside the whole time.
    5. ??? from the midfield.
    6. Well a ??? play right here.
    7. Best teams in the world: Argentina, France, in 2002 both got knocked out ???. France never scored a goal...
    8. DOB: Rosicky lines ??? off the crossbar, almost had his second goal of the day.
    9. Nobody closing him down, he ??? it, just rips one off the crossbar.
    10. Plasil puts it over the top. ???. Look at the first goal.

This pretty much sums up Marcelo "Shut The F*** Up" Balboa. Most of the time, he is completely incomprehensible:

"And we talked about for me Barthez shakey and you saw right there sitting their dead" WTF?

    1. "You have Plasil on the outside, left, have him get up and down the wing." (It's Marcelo, as the quote below beautifully demonstrates, it doesn't have to make sense).

    10. "Plasil puts it over the top, and that's, ah, look at the first goal."

    2. "He's already had a Claudio Reyna taking advantage of that."

    3. ?

    4. "Right now he's had to dribble...if...trying to go inside the whole time."

    5. "Steal one from the midfield."

    6. "Well it's after the play right here."

    7. "Best teams in the world: Argentina, France, in 2002 both got knocked out there. France never scored a goal..."

    8. "Rosicky lines anoth-one off the crossbar..."

    9. "Nobody closing him down, he touches it, just rips one off the crossbar."

This is as good as I could do. That's what it sounded like to my ears. The third one though is totally unintelligible, but that's to be expected. I do color commentary for the Div III Men's and Women's teams here at Chicago, and while there is the occasional filler word, I can at least pride myself on not being as bad as ol' Marcello. Jay-sus.

Again, the YouTube link is comedy gold. I laughed out loud for several minutes. Even better is trying to parse that out with punctuation. The best I could do was:

"And we talked about, for me, Barthez: shakey; and you saw right there sitting there dead."

    Definitely it.

    That's what I thought.

???. Maybe "They-brilliant, you see the goal?" Or "they really?"

Still unclear on this, although it does sound like if.

    Sounds right.

    Sounds right.

I don't really hear "there." Sounds more like "the group" or something. I definitely here two syllables .

    Sounds like it. Tricky.

Tucks it? Definitely tucks or touches.

I definitely here "and that's" but it sounds like 2-3 syllables after that.

Listening to it again, I'm really tempted to think he's slurring Dave O'Brien: "Dave O'Br- you see the goal."

Slurred together it's more like: "Da-o-bri'"

Sounds too much like it to me.

Yes. Sounds like he's slurring "the group."

Yeah. I listened to this one again. Definitely sounds like this, which makes sense. PBP does this all the time.

I don't remember where this was on the broadcast. I'm sure that context will help.

Were they watching a replay here? If so, it makes sense. I think he's just stumbling over what to say. They're just filler words there.

I'm going with "they really" for this one.

OK, the full text of his exchange is as follows:

"Well he gets does a nice job of getting inside Pope. Plasil puts it over the top and that’s ???. Look at the first goal. Eddie Pope and Onyewu, they faked near post, he gets beat to the far post. Right there he's waiting far post, Pope gets to the ball, gets beat to the ball near post. Gotta open up your body a little more so you can see the ball and the player."

He's referring to how Plasil's move was similar to the first goal. In light of that reference, I think he's trying to say "and that's been a problem."

    Or:

    "been hurting"
    "what happened"
    "what hurt him"
