What does the current shakeup to C-USA do to the soccer situation? I've read that St. Louis and Charlotte are considering the Atlantic 10 now. Soccertom...any news from St. Louis?
The St. Louis Today website has a couple of articles: Several Conference Options Await SLU Post-Dispatch - October 1 SLU hires former NCAA boss to help in conference talks Post Dispatch - Sept. 6
Which C-USA teams are supposedly leaving for the Big East? Also, is the "Catholic Conference" with DePaul, Marquette, SLU and Dayton joining the Catholic schools in the Big East still being discussed? (That would totally scew UConn, Syracuse, WVU and Pitt, but these days, Machiavelian methods rule in conference alignment.)
Trading spaces CNN-SI - October 16 Rice to accept invitation to join Conference USA Houston Chronicle - Oct. 17 "Rice athletic director Bobby May...wouldn't confirm or deny that Rice is headed for C-USA" "The Big East is expected to finalize its intentions when its members' presidents meet Nov. 4."
Okay...I did some checking on some of the A10 schools, and it looks like they have a lot of those stupid artificial surface fields! Obviously Richmond has a nice venue, but it looks pretty lame for the rest of the schools. When would these changes take place, next season or the year after?
Inside info: Louisville will be going to the Big East and Cincy will probably as well. UofL is a done deal.
For the 2005 season. C-USA is expected to lose Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette, DePaul and possibly South Florida to the Big East. And probably St. Louis and Charlotte to the Atlantic 10. Army has already declared it's independence. With half the conference leaving, CUSA is beating the bushes for replacements. CUSA will pick up SMU, Tulsa and Rice out of the WAC. The WAC has already taken New Mexico St. and Utah St. from the Sun Belt, so I guess that means the Sun Belt is looking for bodies. Every conference that gets raided will raid another conference. Meanwhile, the Big East is suing Miami; Miami is suing the Big East. So who's in the Bowl Championship Series now?
