Just wondering, what sort of club football is there east of the Ural Mountains? Do cities such as Novosibirsk, Irkutsk and Vladivostok have teams? If so, what levels do they play at? Do they play against teams from western Russia? What sort of stadiums do they have? Thanks for your help in advance.
They have leagues and plenty of teams, but the first two divisions of Russian soccer is almost all west of the Urals. Mostly because of high travel costs and economic reasons, soccer west of the Urals is mostly limited to semi-pro and amateur club levels. I don't believe this is the way it has always been, but Shurik is the real one to ask these kinds of questions.
I think there are quite a few eastern clubs in the first division, like the leaders Tom' (Tomsk) and Lokomotiv (Chita). Also, traditionally Okean (Nakhodka) was always on the verge of qualifying into the Premier Division.
In my spare time I have been reading back on the FSU forum chronologically, amazing stuff, I got to 4 years ago.
The best threads (aka Shurik and metros almost killing eachother) were destroyed in the great pogrom of 2002.
