A good Clemson win in typical Clemson fashion.

Play went back and forth for the first sixty minutes without much excitement. Neither team was willing to send too many players into the attack. Both teams withdrew all their players to defend corners. A lot of balls were knocked out for throwins. I think the half time stats were a save a peice for each side. Boring.

But eventually Clemson had USC worn down and was able to isolate a defender vs. a single attacker. The Clemson dribbler had his man beat to the goal line and turned inside when the USC defender knocked him over. It was a clear foul in the PA and the resulting PK was hammered in to seal USC's fate.

For the next five minutes Clemson kept the pressure on and had a few more half chances but more importantly took the wind out of USC's sail.

USC threatened a bit in the last three minutes but Clemson held on for the win.

Clemson looked more fit and deserved a 1-0 win.

Neither team was particularly skilled nor had any kind of style to their game. Both teams liked the long ball and are at a loss when the counter is not available. Is there some kind of electric fence underneath the center circle at Clemson that forces teams to always go wide? Most SOG's were off of set peices. Both teams knocked the ball back to their keeper too often. The keepers knocked the ball long to often. Each team had a problem winning the second ball off a keeper's clearence.

I've had my differences with a certain sign banging Clemson fan and I will take this opportunity to say they seemed to have stopped the taunting. The sign banging fans seemed very positive. I especially liked the big yellow cards they would wave from time to time.

I couldn't stand the ref. Not only does he need to go on a diet and lose 20 lbs and find some way to lose 20 years but he needs to call fouls. He called only the most obvious ones. It was clear to me he had never played at that level and didn't deserve to be out there. He also over estimated his ability at game management. #15 of USC was called in to talk at least a couple of times for chicken *#*#*#*# fouls but never was shown a card (that I remember).

    Don't hate....

Clemson will always find a way to win.

What do you mean no skill or style? This is not a Furman thread.

Have you ever seen Indiana play?

attacking, i totally agree with your assessment of the match. the ref was very inconsistent and seemed to miss obvious fouls (like when #15 pushed/punched borges, and the ref gave him a stiff talking to.)

I felt the game didn't live up to its historical billing....USC had no attack and apparently has enjoyed a soft schedule (until recent). No goals in the last 3 matches.

Clemson while not looking particularly potent did string passes together and found lanes to attack. Where are all the "studs" that use to make this game a can't miss?

No doubt they deserved the win....

where was usc freshman akinsete during the second half. this kid comes in as the gamecocks leading scorer and then gets subbed out in the first half and returns at least halfway through the second half. was he injured?? i dont understand why you keep your top scorer sitting on the bench in the biggest game of the year.
