Honduras is going to launch an investigation that the Catrachos lost on purpose to El Tri in the last Hex match in November. Man, would this be a blow to the Catrachos or El Tri??? Here's the link.

I sure hope it isn't true, for both Mexico and Honduras. I suspect it isn't... Mexico doesn't need to bribe anyone to win at home.

    Mexico did not eliminate Honduras...

I dont remember exactly..but didnt Honduras fail to win at home on 3 different occasions.

    Rule of thumb:

win all you games at home and half of them on the road..and most likely you will advance

Possible Egg in your face huh ************???

Of course being a El Tri luver, you will support your team. I ask you to look at the facts first. TV Azteca was the first to blow the whistle. One person has died w/ the info that the Catrachos throw the match against the Soca Warriors. Now you can look at these details, but I think that if Honduras Congress feels that there wasn't a strong possibility, then they wouldn't create a commission on this. Man, I hope for your sake it doesn't prove that this happened.

Use a little common sense.... how many games has Mexico lost in the Azteca? Not even your Argentinas, Hollands, etc have done that.

I could have sworn that Televisa owned the rights of the Mexican national team during 1998-2002? I could be wrong though which I highly undoubt. THe first division and the national team are 2 seperate packages. This time around, Televisa and TV Azteca want to go into it together from 2002 to 2006. So, knowing now who owned the rights.. who is Televisa's arch rival? MMMMMMMM i wonder. Check it out Capt. Obvious... Jose Ramon Fernandez (Mr. Televisa Reject and wants to get even) is known for shyt like this. He also does it to Club America since they pertain to Televisa.

If Honduras can hit the post on 4-5 different occasions... my respects to them if they can do it on command.. realllyyyy my respects to them?

Every Honduran can cry all they want... but mexico did not eliminate them.. they did that themselves. When you lose 3 games at home... your chances decrease significantly.

Honduras has never beaten Mexico at home...

Rumor mill spins with regard to Honduras

Soccerage is reporting that a commission has been formed to investigate whether Honduras through its last two games against T&T and Mexico.

    http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/g3369.html

I find it hard to believe this because one would argue that the US was the chief beneficiary of the Honduran collapse.

Plus Pavon twice hit the bar against T&T and that's very hard to do.

Honduras hit the crossbar FIVE times in the second half against T&T. Hard to believe they could do that on purpose.

The Soccerage story refers to the murder of Aritstides Soto, Honduran TV commentator, just before the T&T game. For the first story in English on the murder (with no hints at a link to the game - if anything, a French tourist and 3 Honduran hotel employees were suspected) at this site:

I saw that game, and I've got to agree. Honduras put up one hell of a fight. According to Efe, they hit the woodwork 5 times, and I thought it was more. In addition, Shaka Hislop made some unreal saves, and Stern John scored a clinical goal.

Why would Honduras want to throw the match? Each team member would have made a lot of money for going to the world cup. I think the US players made over 500,000 dollars each. No way would the FMF fork over that kind of cash to fix a match. Also, Honduras hit the post 4 times against T&T. Pretty good aim to do that on purpose.

Even harder to believe is that a couple of bigsoccer posters claimed that they DID in fact do it on purpose. Thankfully, those posts are gone forever.

I don't think they hit the posts on purpose....

but one has to think about this, the Catrachos had beaten Brazil a few months prior. Then to lose to Trinidad. Doesn't that smell fishy to you??? I don't know, but it does to me. I remember thinkin' that the Yanks wouldn't make it, cause they don't score enough. Plus El Tri was coming on strong. So, the controversy is there & valid.

Right, but if thery can hit the post at will, then they're good enough to win the World Cup outright. Surely that's worth more than whatever bribe they might have received?

No, it was just sour grapes from losers. Winners achieve, losers make excuses.

Not really. The Brazilian team they beat was a hodge podge affair, not the full team. Every team has their ups and downs, and from the sounds of it, it makes no sense:

Mexico pay someone to throw a match at Azteca? Why would they pay that, since they're virtually guaranteed a win? That's like saying you expect George Bush to put significant resources into trying to carry the state of Texas in the next election.

Maybe they'd pay to have them throw the match to T&T, but they'd have to pay a lot to outdo what they Catrachos would get from playing in the WC.

The mostly likely source for any bribe would be the USSF, not El Tri. Trust me, our association isn't nearly clever enough to try something like that.

Well, no, it smells like soccer, a strange game where any team can win on any given day and the winning team is by no means the one that has more talent or even the one that plays better.

By this logic, every major upset warrants an official investigation:
--Portugal qualified first out of the toughest UEFA group and then lost to the USA--doesn't that smell fishy to you?
--France was the defending World and European champion and lost to an African country that had never even qualified for the world cup--doesn't that smell fishy to you?
--Argentina was favored to win the World Cup, but didn't even get out of its group--doesn't that smell fishy to you?

    Etc....
