yep, I set the bar pretty high for the upcoming season! First news item; Kiwi NT captain Ali Riley joins Bayern Munich, click on to the vid, Ali talks about her transfer(hmm.......for a New Zealander, she does sport a rather American accent!)

Ali played in the States for ten plus years, so makes sense that she has an Americanized accent. We often develop our accents when we're quite young as well which might have contributed. I can't wait to see her at Bayern, hopefully I'll be able to catch some games!

An away friendly today for Bayern at Arsenal, it's super cool

Bayern gegen Arsenal: „Super Testspiel in einem sehr coolen Stadion“

There's a crushing heatwave there, but anyway. A longer preview is on the Arseblog. Bayern's played twice so far in the preseason, with PSG coming up, another possible UWCL opponent. And the Bayern U35 team are the champions of their U35 league, that's the Über-35 league, it's very confusing

final score; Bayern Munich 1, Arsenal 0

can't find highlights but except for Leupolz spectacular header, not much else was happening. BM did have the advantage that they looked more advanced in preparation since their season starts in only 3 weeks, compared to Arsenal's a month later. Plus Arsenal were missing their main English & Dutch stars(who were on "extended break"). BM was clinical in it's passing, but just like last season, had a weak finishing touch. They had a strong high press, but once they got the turnover, they prefered it to kick back to the wings, instead of the fast break.
BM has another friendly scheduled on August 6th against the powerful PSG(featuring newbie, Sarah Dabritz). Hopefully that game will be streamlined & a bit more action(less passing, lol)

in the meantime. Wolfsburg won a 3-2 friendly v Slavia Prague. They started all their new players, except for the injured Rolfo/ More info below(need google translater)

Anja Mittag is back in Germany at RB Leipzig Corp (who play at level 3, the regional leagues). Her team beat the level-2 club Cloppenburg in the DFB Cup 1st round.

It ended 4-2 at the Cottaweg stadium -- see DFB Cup highlights video 1 (that game @2.00 mins) and others in video 2.

here's the full game of Wolfsburg's rather easy, friendly win over English champs, Arsenal

in other news, Caro Simon moves to Bayern Munich after a season stint at Lyon

the new season starts this weekend, but I noticed the DBF hasn't posted it's game of the week. This would be an end of an era for me as I've watched those game regularly over the last 6 years. If there's anywhere else to watch streamlined Buli games, let me know.

WOW Hoffenheim is using the best of both world's; precise German/BMW passing with a very, very hurried/frentic pace aka American style, to blow out the more heralded, Essen. Can you believe it? not a sinlge Hoff player is on the NT!

Hoffenheim does it again; clobbers a more heralded Freiburg, 5-1! With 4 goals is winger, Tabea Wassmuth(sorry, can't double the S on my pc). From trying to find some info about her(as she seemed to go have gone under the radar) she's just graduated from the University of Manheim. So now that she got college out the way, will she become the next super star of woso?
    highlights(Wassmuth is #28)
Highlights: SC Freiburg vs. TSG Hoffenheim

Hoff's real baptism of fire will come next week as they take on Bayern Munich

and they did it!, Hoffenheim has just defeated Bayern Munich, 1-0, to take 2nd place in the standings. The game was apparently shwon on German TV but I can't find a full game replay, but here's highlights. BM dominated play, got if give heads up to HF's GK for making some great saves, and obviously a lucky, own goal by BM helped them, but even with a tie, HF would of stayed in 2nd place in league standings with BM still got Wolfsburg to play

at least Hoffenheim's meteoric rise is getting noticed as they were again featured in the game of the week, this time vs Bayer Leverkusen(full game below). Not the blowout that Hoff's previously had but still, their fast paced offence was able to produce over 30 shots. As mentioned several stars's-in-waiting & obviously NT coach, MVT has noticed as she placed 3(Rall, Wassmuth & Hardick) of them on her squad at the last open window, but then decided not to give them any playing time, even vs easy Greece.
    Some of the reasons why;

with a major tourney still nearly 2 years away, maybe MVT doesn't want to spring them on the world too fast?(but then she's keeps starting her cubs, Buhl & Oberdorf)

Can MVT teach her complex, plodding stye to the 'run n gun' Hoff players?

is Hoff's success based more on just how weak the league's gotten?(though why isn't Munich blowing opponents away?)

here's highlights of what was probably the most anticipated matchup for the week

despite starting four of MVT's faves, Essen still got whipped, 1-5. Wolfsburg remains unbeaten in 8 games, and that's despite several of their main players on the injury list. Looking at the lineups, missing or not playing; Huth, Popp, Shulze, Minde, Doorsoun
Wolfsburg vs. SGS Essen - 26 October 2019 - Women Soccerway
they'll be looking to play back to back games with Bayern Munich in mid Nov(both league & cup matchup) plus pretty much a sure thing this Wwednesday in CL action vs FC Twente(6-0 lead)

PS just based on the highlights, nice to see both teams play a faster transition type style than technical minded as that's where woso seems to be more heading( though it will probably irk the more puritan type fans)

here's a replay between BM & WOB, as the new stream channel isn't going to be covering next meeting

it was another disappointment for BM as now their eleminated from the German Cup/They'll have to face current 3 time champs, Lyon, next in the Champions League/ They'll only 3rd place in the Bundesliga with still to play #1 & #4 WOB & Essen before mid season ends, and then to go with all that, it was a rather smallish crowd of 1400 that attended this game as compared to record breaking crowds in other leagues(30k for Lyon vs PSG/38K for Arsenal vs Spurs) and then reports that they did try to make a bid for Sam Kerr's services(but she signed with Chelsea instead). You could say not a very good week for BM, lol

despite all these setbacks, BM was at least in this game up till the 86th minute against WOBs extra-ordinaire of foreign mercs & thats with Leupolz & Gwinn missing due to injuries. But the ace mid trio of Dallmann, Magull & Lohmann hit a brick wall trying to go through the middle and the two fwds, Beerensteyn & Damnjovic weren't fast enough on the counters to get behind WOB's defense.
At least with one loss out of the way, you'll hope that the law of averages gives them a better chance in this Saturday's rematch(though this time in league play). but they definitely will need to come up with a better game plan

wonder what major implications are going to be if the standings hold up till the end of the season > if the rich & heavy NT ladden, Bayern Munich, does not make next year's Champions League?
In the meantime, despite loosing 3 major players to injuries, looks like 2nd place Hoffenheim isn't slowing down as they just burried Turbine Postdam, 5-1
But here's BM's barely limping to victory vs Essen

after an over long, two month break, the Bundesliga finally back in action, featuring #1 Wolfsburg vs #2 Hoffenheim, but alas, simply dominated by WOB as they took a 4-0 lead early in the 2nd half to eventually win, 5-2(full replay below). WOB seems strong enough to win the CL this season(as this time Lyon looks a bit underwhelming), but the only thing holding them back is not getting the competition in the obviously much weakened Bundesliga. Hoffenheim seemed to have missing 3-4 starters(not a good sign if you just came from an 2 month break, lol), still gets to maintain it's lead over Bayern Munich on an one goals difference(nd BM still got to play WOB one more time). Here is the current standings

    Thanks for the update.

Creating an entire Geman sub-forum already seemed a long shot when there were at least 2 or 3 regular contributors around. Now that those posters left (or were kicked), it looks like just getting back to being part of Women's International could make much more sense. :coffee:

But who am I to shatter the ambition to compete with USWNT's sub-forums? :p the problem is Germany NT itself doesn't seem to measure up well with USWNT anymore, these days... :cautious: (Yes, they keep being #2 in the FIFA rankings, but frankly Netherlands, England, France sound more competitive these days).

your forgetting that Germany beat England at Wembley this last Nov, beat France in Paris last Feb, & does have a long win streak over NED(though the last itme they met pre 2017 Euros). In fact, ever since the Stefi Jones/SBC debacle of two years ago(when she finally been fired) GER been unbeaten, except of course, for the WC quarter final loss vs Sweden

MVT has brought several newer players/fresher tactics to the NT, but she did it right smack in the middle of the WC(when most others were allready well prepared) instead of waiting to rebuild after the tournament(this might of frustrated Batfink more than anything in loosing interest)

Those 3 squads mentioned have benefited from recent, bigger crowds at their NT as well as pro club levels, thus increasing investment money in pro or developement type leagues. But making woso a popular 'spectator' sport doesn't neccesarily turns into an 'participant' sport. thus GER might still have an bit of advantage, but yeah it sucks that the H-U-G-E German broso fan club shows so little interest in the female counterparts even though their men's NT has fallen recently, way out of the top 10(think their ranked now their lowest ever, #16). I don't even think I've seen the woso NT make an 5 figure attendance mark in their home country since when I started watching them regularly in 2013.

there's no doubt Big Soccer has lost tons of posters in recent years thanks in part due to it's out dated format(it's often hard to know when a new important thread opens as compared to the ultra swift, facebook/twitter) but also heavy handed moderators who got the power to humiliate posters with yellow cards or kick them out alltogether or half kicked out(if you didn't know, I got kicked out of the World Cup threads) as well ban semi provocative pictures(like the popular, hottest women, thread) & links to streamed, live games

It was indeed 2013 when I personally attended (with a friend from Nadeshiko Japan's thread) a friendly match in Munich between Japan and Germany (that ended in a 4-2 win for Germany): I was remembering an almost full Allianz Arena and at the time we were believing the attendance could have been almost 50.000 people (despite the rain in a June's late-afternoon).

I looked for info on the net and in fact I found that: "Germany needed two late goals to secure victory, with the match also notable for an attendance of 46,104 spectators in Munich; a European record for a friendly international".

So there definitely was at least a match in Germany, since 2013, that made a 5 figure attendance.

oh sorry, mean't to say I became a regular watcher when Germany won the 2013 Euros in later summer. I tried to look back for the J game that you mentioned, but my trusty soccerway website didn't go that far back. Their first gamer after GER won the Euros, was a WC qualfier vs Russia & indeed hit the 5 figure attendance mark, but barely(and took an continous dive after that)

    Please, God, no...

For starters, it might help if the Germany WNT had its own 2020 thread here, instead of continuing the pre-World Cup page with a nazi reference in the title.

They might get a few more Germany fans here (via the link on the Germany forum) if the link actually worked! I'll ask the folks there if they can change the typo.

HOF lost their game which means they're chances for making it to the Champions League is finished Bayern Munich takes over 2nd/as the status quo like the rest of the major leagues in Europe been restored..
Got the feeling a poorer club like HOF couldn't keep up it's training consistancy like BM, who usally sends it's team to warmer, Spain or Protugal during the wintry, two months break. Now Bayern Munich has bought the top domestic goal scoring leader, Lea Schuller, for next season, which I guess means, the poor get poorer, the rich get richer,, thus depriving even less suspense for this & seasons to come!
I'll report back if anything major happens
