From an interesting interview with Bruce, just wondered if anyone read it? SI.com: Do you think it's going to be harder for U.S. Soccer to take the next step than some people think? Arena: I don't think they know what they're supposed to do. U.S. Soccer is a governing body. U.S. Soccer should be a body that's neutral and not compromised by anybody. That's the way you govern a sport. Now once you're in bed with anybody else in the sport it's hard to govern. So that's what that is now. I've always felt that the relationship between the federation and the professional league and marketing companies has to be separate, but it's not. So it's hard to really make the right decisions.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to The Wee Man again. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'm a little naive about how things work now, and what would be ideal, so I'd be interested in seeing how Bruce and Wee Man would like things run. Obviously, we don't want AEG running everything.
Actually, I do want AEG to run the Galaxy, so they continue to be a disfunctional, underachieving collection of swollen egos. FRANK YALLOP -- leave while you still can!!
I read the thread on the MLS News and analysis forum, is there another elsewhere? The posters on the News and analysis section mostly concentrated on whether or not Bruce Arena is arrogant or conceited, and whether or not his opinions about the quality of players or the league. There was very discussion about the "conflict of interest' of US Soccer with MLS and SUM. Arena seemed pretty accurate to me when he criticized that relationship. I also wonder how far Red Bull can go in building the "real soccer club" Arena envisions without bumping heads with MLS rules.
Now with former MLS Deputy Commissioner Mr. Gulati as the President of the Federation, MLS control over USSF is even tighter.
