Although I didn't like his defensive game strategy or keeping Doyle, I thought Brian was taking the team in the right direction. If I remember correctly, he drafted the following: Wade Richard Cannon (A League) Conrad? I'm not taking anything away from Frank, but I believe Brian deserves some credit for our success in the last two years by bringing the above players to the Quakes. Your thoughts? Also, I thought Brian was better than Osiander and Calloway, but he was kind of at the wrong place and the wrong time. Any idea what he is doing know?
I think most people acknowledge Quinn was excellent at developing young players. Where he was weak was relating to veteran players (GOUGH!!!) and tactics.
Isn't he coaching the San Diego Sockers of the MISL at present? I think Brad, as usual, sums it up well about the veterans and the tactics. An ex-freelancer friend of mine was covering the Clash for the Examiner then. In one of Osiander's first matches in charge, he made some tactical change at halftime (moving Eddie Lewis up front but still wide or something) that lead to a good second half performance. My friend told me that after the match, a lot of the players commented how happy they were to have seen this change occur, intimating it didn't happen a lot under Quinn. Go Quakes Tony
I have to give Quinnie some props. I was in the old Clash offices on El Camino one afternoon and he bounded through the lobby, stopped, introduced himself, welcomed me, and thanked me for taking an interest in the team. (I couldn't believe the head coach of any pro team would do this). Later, when I took the reigns of Club Clash (now Club Quake), Brian would always take time to see if the front office and the players were taking care of the supporters. He did a lot off-the-field for us... Mike
I'll grudgingly give Quinn some props. But the psoitive change after Yallop became coach was huge and noticable after a few games. Maybe Quinn helped set the table and invited a few guests , but Frankie invited everyone else, cleaned the house, made the appetizers, made a five-star dinner and served us all some pretty fine dessert...twice!
