    The Big Ten soccer season is about to start;
who are your picks to win the conference?

PSU is young, but I'm still going with the defending conference champs, baby!

Well isn't that nice; Penn State and Indiana have one thing in common this season: THEY'VE BOTH BEEN SPANKED BY AKRON!!!

One other thing I know is that Ohio States ONE STINKING LOUSY GOAL ALL FREAKIN SEASON won't make them much of a threat.

But we've got the Zips - eat your Big TeLeven hearts out.

    Bandwagon

Jump on Archer! You are officially on the bandwagon!
PSU and Indiana will be there when it counts, I bet the farm on that one.
Plus anyone can beat anybody on any given day..., but to maintain it over the entire season is another story.
It took O'Rourke getting red carded for Akron to win against IU. It took Akron taking Severs out of the game 4 minutes in, plus PSU without their 2 other starters to lose that one.
Akron may have won a couple of good games against undermanned teams, but they sure didn't bring the noise against national power Oakland.
Don't be so quick to knock these teams down yet.
PSU and Indiana are way too good and talented to be down for long.
Plus, Ohio State have 3 goals, and have been a force defensively.
But the teams to watch out for are Michigan State and Michigan. They will push PSU and IU all season long.

Yeah, I wouldn't really consider a 1 goal win a spanking. Akron has played great so far with some great results, but you have to finish strong. Last year PSU got off to a slow start before rolling through the Big Ten tourney.

I think it's hard to say what's going to happen in the Big Ten. Part of it depends on if Chad Severs is healthy, without him the Nittany Lions are not as dynamic (even though Simon Omekanda has tons of potential). Indiana has been off-form early on, and Ohio State has obviously struggled. Michigan still has some talent to challenge. I'd say it's wide open, but Indiana has a great chance to jump to the front with this Friday's match against Severs. I haven't heard if Severs will play, but the Hoosiers have owned the Nittany Lions (except for a PSU shootout win in the Big Ten tourney last year).

I don't know what "bandwagon" you're referring to, except maybe the "overrated Big TeLeven" contingent.

And you're right - OSU did score those two impressive goals against freakin' Bradley. I forgot about that game in the aftermath of their loss to mighty Duquesne.

And don't give me that "any given day" crap with regard to Akron. They're a team well worthy of respect. Thier wins were not flukes.

As for Severs, well, everybody has a banged up player or two. If Omekanda is so hot, and if PSU is so loaded, they ought to be able to overcome. Unless you're suggesting they're a one-man show.

And frankly, if I was starting a track team, Omekanda is one of the first guys I'd call. As a soccer player, he needs some work and perhaps a little introduction to the fact that there are 10 other guys out there who are on his side. He might consider involving them in the run of play.

    Big 10

Didn't PSU lose to Cal State Fullerton? The Big 10 is a notch below the notch below Conference USA. I rest my case.

There's some great logic! Make a judgement call based on one game, brilliant! What a case it is!

In case you didn't pick up on my sarcasm, Cal State Fullerton has nothing to do with Conference USA, they're in the Big West. What point are you making?

    HAHAHAHA!!!

I think the sleeper for PSU this season that will break out and play big is Brian Devlin. He's now in his soph year, so he's got some experience under his belt plus potential.
