All right. I started this thing because people were always bitching about top 50 lists that came out from the AFI or sumsuch and I decided to try to develop a list that reflected BS tastes and also something that would force me to watch a bunch of movies that I should have and the second end was acheived.

Not sure if this will garner any interest at all and it may die on the vine, but I would like to finish this off. Here is how it will work (suggestions as to how screwed up this methodology is are encouraged.)

    1) We take the current draft list. Everyone takes it, and eliminates all movies which they think should NOT be in the top 50 movies of all time. Based on these, I'll go through them and come up with those movies in the draft list for which there is no debate whatsoever. I'll list the draft list, and put asterisks next to the one's where there is no debate. People have until Jan. 1 to make their list. .

    2) We will then have a draft list which hopefully a few movies already enshrined in the BS Top 50 movies. At that point, we will simply have nominations and discussions for those movies that should or should not be on the list. It will work as follows: The Godfather is left off of someone's list and therefore doesn't have an asterisk. I tell everyone they are full of shit, and call for a disucssion, and we vote on the Godfather. We discuss and vote at the same time. 24 hours goes by. The vote is counted, and the Godfather either earns as asterisk or an X -- it's out of the running and there is no more discussion about it.

Any movies not on the list is open for vote unless it earns an X and is out of the running.

    3) We do this one movie at a time. Only one outstanding nomination discssed at a time, although I will try to put movies in a queue. When we get to 50 asterisked, we are done.

I will keep a running tally on the stickied post.

    Here is the draft list:

    1. The Rules of the Game (1939)
    2. Seven Samurai (1954)
    3. Vertigo (1958)
    4. Sunrise (1927)

NOTE: Abstaining and not screwing things up.

The BS Top 50 list is supposed to reflect the tastes of people wo post on these boards about movies. Although there is no limitation on who votes, etc., please use "no" votes in a fair way. If you have't seen a film, a no vote is kind of a big statement -- maybe not voting is in order. By the same token, if only two posters have ever seen a nominated movie, letting them completely control whether a movie get's in because everyone abstains may not reflect the board, even if you weigh things in favor of the usual suspects.

    Use your best judgment.

Thank you! I just gotta go off here...

This "Top 50 Movie" thing has been sticked to the top of the Movies TV Music forum since last April. APRIL!! I'm sick of looking at it. After 9 months now can we just bury the damn thing. Jesus Christ!

Just asked for the top 50 movie thread to be unstuck.

Not enough interest. Thanks to those who made some comments.

That's how I feel about your constant posting of movie posters in the "What Movie Did You Just Watch" thread without any comment.

You see, nobody gives a fuck about what movie you just watched. Now if you want to share something about the movie you just watched, that's different. But you don't do that.

I like the idea of this but there are too many on the list I haven't seen and haven't had the time to see. So that's why I haven't done it. I'd suspect that could be a reason for most others as well.

Hasn't it always been sort of a rule to make some sort of comment on the movie when posting on that thread?
