63 different players getting named when each journalist has just five votes is interesting.

unbelievalbe that neither Zico nor Maradona were selected???
Zico won Brazil championship and topscorer there. Maradona also won top scorer in Argentina league! Note that both were not striker of their team!

Yeah, I'm shocked that Maradona wasn't selected for a Brazilian league allstar team playing for Argentinos Juniors.

Even Zico was not there so noway Maradona could be in LOL ..

Anyway, I think that year Maradona beat Boca with 4goals on his own - Just that game was enough to put his name in to that team !

    IMO best player
    78 Zico,
    79 Maradona
    80 Mradona
    81 Zico
    82 Zico

The Placar team is for players in the Brazilian league only, Maradona is not eligible. Shocking to see Baltazar and Mario Sergio over Zico!

I'm sure that's was because James replied quickly :)

btw, the direct competitor to Zico in Bola de Prata 1980 was Socrates (AM).
I really would like to see top-10 rated players and i'm sure Zico should be there.

You do realize that Mario Sergio was a top player, right? As I've said many times, the competition in Brazil at midfield and forward positions was something absolutely enormous. If Brazil was to send a B-team to the World Cup in 1982, it would still be a squad almost as powerful as the actual one.
Btw, I'm not saying those players are greater than Zico overall, by any means. I'm just highlighting how hard the leagues were in Brazil in those days and how great were the players in them. One slip during one season or tournament by the top players, one little drop in their football level, and their position was taken by someone else.
That was very common in Brazil up until the 1980s.

Since, i hadn't El Grafico rankings for argentine league in 1980. And considering both El Pais & El Grafico de Oro. And most important, the tendency in previous and later seasons.

My two cents, it could argued that for the 1980 season, argentine league produces 3 world class players: Maradona, Fillol, Passarella.
And +/- 8 intl. class players (including foreigners)

Something similar could be expected from brazilian league that year?
With the likes of Zico, T.Cerezo, Socrates & Falcao running for a world class season?

Yeah, I got confused about Mario Sergio, this guy was the one who owned Hamburg at the Toyota final, right? Definitely a top player and mostly forgotten one. You are right about the Brazilian league those days, there were too many talents and back then NT friendlies were few, hence most of them unfortunately didn't get a chance to put on the national shirt.

Oh yeah. The list of the "unfortunates" or the "injustiçados" (that's what they are called around here) is quite big and quite famous as well!

Just to name a few: Ademir da Guia, Dirceu Lopes (both had to compete with the likes of Paulo Cézar Caju, Gérson, Rivellino, Pelé, Tostão and Jairizinho for a spot in Brazil'70 - the manager preferred the other names), Falcão (1978), Djalma Dias, Vladimir, Leão (1982), Mauro Galvão, Renato Gaúcho, Neto, Evair, Alex de Souza, Marcelinho Carioca, Djalminha, Canhoteiro, Toninho Guerreiro, Edmundo, Edilson, Giovani, Reinaldo... and I didn't even mention players from the 80's like Andrade, Adílio, Tita, Pita, Mozer, Zé Sérgio

That's not even half of the list. It goes on and on... Those players would be in the starting XI of any other NT in the world at their times.

But out of all those, Ademir da Guia and Dirceu Lopes top the list. Both are considered the best number 10s ever produced in Brazil, up there with Pelé, Zico, Rivellino...
