Well, a fact that is well-known on these boards, Colorado, the Revolution, and the Metromutts are the only three teams in the MLS that do not possess a trophy, either a US Open Cup or MLS Cup (Miami and Tampa Bay don't count). Colorado lost their two bids at a championship, losing the '97 MLS Cup and the '99 US Open Cup. New England lost the Open Cup to LA in '01 and the MLS Cup to LA last year. This is the first championship final for the Metros. Do you hope they lose, just so the Rapids aren't one of the only teams left without some hardware? (not that they couldn't win MLS Cup '03).
I voted for the metrostars to win. It's not that I dislike the Fire's players, coaches, jock managers, or ball boys and girls. It's because I just can't stand their fans.
I don't care who wins. I'm hoping for a hard fought, up and down the field, physical, overtime, very tiring, game. I want the Fire players to play harder then they ever have, to come out of the game knowing they gave it all they had. To come out saying, I don't want to put on the cleats again for at least, oh, maybe 5 or 6 days
its going to be a battle... the Metros need some hardware in the empty trophy case alot more then the fire need it.....
With perspective to the Rapids ... who cares ... With perspective to the US Open Cup ... Metros ... With perspective to MLS ... Metros ... With perspective to picking the team I'd rather see win ... Fire.
I ordinarily wouldn't care but we have to play Chicago three days later. So for that reason only, I hope NY/NJ kicks the crap out of 'em, runs them full speed the entire game, and wears them out so by the time we get to them the Fire just don't have anything left. Yeah, we may have a game on Wednesday too, but not like that. Go MetroStars, help us out here!
I hope the Metroz get obliterated, although it has nothing to do with trophy cases or futility. Rather, it's due to getting hit with rolls of electrical tape thrown by Metrofans during the DC-NY/NJ game on July 5. Muck the Fetros. Go Fire.
Actually if you include the Supporter's Shield (and IMO, you should) both Miami and Tampa have won a trophy as well (Well, Tampa won the virtual Supporter's Shield in '96), and the three teams listed still haven't...
Feelin kinda stupid yet? We whupped the Mutts and now we've beaten the Rapids. We've got the Open Cup, the Supporter's Shield and we make all other teams supporters look like park district soccer moms! A couple more weeks and we'll have the treble! HEY FIRE GOOOO! PS when is Spencer's retirement bash?
