These two photos are moving today:

The first shows a "demonstrator" at the Cancun WTO meetings. If he's risking his life attacking the evil forces of Facist Corporatism, he sure is doing it from a distance. But the photographer is clearly showing that it's all for the cameras. I wonder how many of the photos being taken of this guy will make this point and how many will imply that he's engaged in street battles with the police.

Then there's this file photo of the various leaders of the Iraqi government:

    Pretty standard fare, right?

But then read the AP caption: (emphasis added)

From left, Samir Shakir Mahmoud, Abdel-Karim Mahoud al-Mohammedawi, Abdel-Aziz al-Hakim, Mohammed Bahr al-Ulloum, Jalal Talabani, Ahmad Chalabi, and Mouwafak al-Rabii sit in the hall for a news conference after their inaugural meeting in this July 13, 2003 file photo in Baghdad, Iraq (news - web sites). In the five months since U.S. forces rid Iraq of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s rule, the country's ethnically and religiously diverse people have, in one giant leap, overturned decades of social and political injustice, replaced a brutal one-party system with a multitude of groups advocating a rich range of ideologies and created a free press. (AP Photo/Mikhail Metzel, File)

I hope the captionwriter is able to keep his job after this. Telling the truth about Iraq, and not even using the word "quagmire" is against the rules of journal;ism.
