The two Portuguese players face off this afternoon in what should be a great game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm, and will be televised live on Fox Sports World.
I will watch the Newcastle at 3 pm. If Hugo Viana is playing I my flick the channel once the derby starters. I will not miss the derby, I did miss the Sporting game on radio yesterday to watch the game between the Canada and USA for the Women's under 19 from Canada, and I have to say I was impress with the crowds for but the semi-finals and final. I see Edmonton having more soccer games in the future.
Ya bettcha.sinclair should have scored.....The americans scored on a fluky goal by a bad clearence........
O'Brien the best american forward from New Jersey, she was horse like Sinclair she also miss by inches. The best and most experience team won. Going back to the game Liverpool vs Newcastle should be a triller, but the derby is the derby.
What a game it was 2-0 liverpool and newcastle comes right back to tie it..........2 minutes left looks like xavier is having a excellent game and Vianna to
Do you guys notice the difference between this game and the Boavista vs Porto game, the referee barely exists. To many stops in the Portuguese game some of theme could be avoid, the othe part the players don't help by been to physical.
totally agree...........the refs have to have a balence between what to call and what not to call.otherwise the game is screwed thats why some peoplr think portugeuse soccer is getting worse
Agree some referees they have the play continue and let some of does players get up, and stop fake a injury, a good referee can tell when its a fake or when its a injury. With a lot old referees retire in portuguese soccer there is some good ones coming out. In the Newcastle the referee saw a penalty and was not afraid to call in the Porto game, the referee saw two penalties against Porto and didn't make the right decision, its the difference between a good league and a rink dink league. When Porto, Sporting, Benfica come to town the local sellout there stadiums, when the other teams play by themeselves they lucky to have better crowds then the A-League.
The officiating in Portugal is horrid, true...but thats not the only thing. The reason for the refs being horrible is the antics of the people involved in Portuguese football throughout the week. For instance, after being screwed out of a 2-0 win against Varzim last season Benfica held a press conferance asking all the fans to come to the stadium and "examine" the ref. If that does not put a ridiculous amount of pressure on the ref, I don't know what does. Mourinho has a picnic of referree comments after the 2-2 tie against CFB and then Dias Cunha has the "evidence" proving corruption which in turn leads to over a gazillion pk;s called in SCP's favor. That is the reason the refs are bad. PS, there is one good ref coming up, goes by the name Pedro Henriques. Young guy, called some great matches last week.
The was last year, and this year will be remember for the pressure Mourinho put on the referees after the Belenenses game, I was still in Portugal. Two wrong's don't make one right. What Super League? when more then half of our teams draw less then the A-League.
as for the attendance issue, that will never be solved. Everyone is a fan of the big 3.....thats why no one is interested in Braga vs Pacos Ferreira.
I expect with 10 new stadiums, and with referees to call the game not been afraid to call the penalties the local fans will come. They will come in cities like Aveiro, Braga, Guimaraes, Setubal, Coimbra, Leiria, Faro if the teams will have a chance to win. Look at the old stadiums standing room only, the difference TV the fans learn there team will have no chance the way the referees call the game. I watch the game between Newcastle vs Liverpool the penalty was questionable but he was not afraid to call it against the home team, that's the difference.
Part of the reason that the refs in the EPL 'let them play' is that there are far less fouls compared to the Porto-Boavista derby, which was a bloodbath.
well, we both can see which of the two teams were the "hacks" by these two numbers: Boavista fouls: 45 Porto: 18
Porto didn't help. Second half was a little better the teams open up a little more, also the referee not calling the two penalties could be a Boavista arguement.
If there is no discipline in the portuguese teams, how can our seleccao be any better? the players got the owners to protect, and the league so we still going to have games like yesterday. I can care less for the Jaime Pacheco style of play, I just don't want Pacheco in the Benfica team and the national team, period.
Newcastle were the away team last night, Frank - the game was played at Anfield, Liverpool's stadium. A lot of Newcastle fans complained about the ref - the foul count was something like 26 - 5 in favour of Liverpool - but Bobby Robson said that the ref was right to award the penalty against his team.
