2003 Supporter's Shield The season's not over, but the Shield is officially ours. I have a thought that we as supporters should buy a permanent trophy for the Fire's case. If we chip in once and purchase a nice one, even nicer than the actual trophy that's passed around every year, we could just update it every season with a new engraving to signify the year we won. Right now the trophy moves, but I don't know what's left in its wake for future generations. If something already is there, I guess we're OK. But if not, I think we should start thinking about a really nice piece of hardware. Any thoughts?
Since it may be either that or a Polaroid, I know what I'd vote for. Possibly a smaller version? And if we can get a bunch of them made with $ chipped in from all supporter's groups, we can take care of this problem for a while.
Something like this, maybe? http://www.tiffany.com/business/sho...D=TFB&catalogitem=12220278&sku=12220278&qty=& I don't know that a trophy is really necessary though. Maybe just a plaque.
Here's a damn good idea for a plaque... http://www.trophycentral.com/firplaqcomso.html And every time we win it, get another. Maybe just use the base and not have all the firemen insignia, but use the wood base shape and engrave a circle in the middle with "MLS Supporters Shield Champions 2003".
Well, one, your opinion is worth squat; and two, it's still a shield, just thinking about doing something locally to give the award permanence in the trophy case. I'm for the fireman plaque, if this is done.
First off, I'm for anything that's not a Polaroid. Second, if we're talking about things in the the range of $100-$400, I'd splurge if it's decided that the $400 item is better. I like the Fireman's plaque idea, and I'm not against a plaque, but it does look a little bit cheesy. The trophy is OK too. I was under the impression that the official SS trophy was a couple thousand dollars so $400 seems cheap to me. Anyone else have links to trophys? I'll start to look around.
I think maybe the ideal is have someone do that wooden plaque shape in metal, and engrave it. That may be too expensive though. It wouldn't look cheesy at all I don't think.
That's what I'm thinking. If it's expensive, then either we don't do it or we suck it up. Hopefully it'll be resonable. I've never looked up trophys before, much less custome ones. Does anyone here have any experience with it?
Here is a good idea. A custom plaque in the shape of the shield, and we could purchase a mini-shield for every year they win the Supporter's Shield.
I like the trophy. Get a Shield engraved on it. Get it mounted on a wooden pedestal, with a plaque on the front. Do it right. I'm sorry, but the Fireman's plaque is cheesy.
Isn't it a bit strange to buy another actual trophy to give just to our team when they win? I think a plaque or something would be better, since the whole idea of the Shield trophy is that it's passed around. Leaving a plaque or banner behind is a good idea, but not another trophy. It'll start supporters group wars over who can finance a bigger and better shield trophy when their club wins, and that seems a bit silly. I like the idea of the supporters of the club giving them something, just not a competing trophy. I like the fireman's thing, but it could be a bit nicer. Perhaps a shield-shaped plaque would be better. But we definitely need a banner to hang somewhere in the stadium, too.
There already is, in the north end of the stadium. 3 actually. Listing MLS Cup, US Open Cup, and divisional/conference championships so far.
Right, that's what I meant, of course. Good job.. Is this the shield plaque you are talking about: http://www.silvertrophy.com/eric/modules/catalogue/category.asp?c=9&t=1 Nice. And all the little shields for the different years we win it! I like it a lot.
The shield plaque would be tight. However, here's to hoping that the plaque doesn't go the way of the flag poles on the roof of Wrigley. I definetly like the idea of a permanent plaque or trophy or cup with the addition of engravings each year we win.
The Silver Trophy stuff looks good, but I'd love to see one in person. And if this thing is going to be under $200, I would chip in extra to get something personalized with the Fire name, logo and anything we want to discuss here.
