relax. the past 2 weeks we've been hearing that some of these guys had injuries. this WAS a garbage game, if there was ever a game to rest players it was this 1. the homefield advantage is minimal. momentum isnt even at stake here because the A team know they werent the guys that lost. if anything the loss will pump up our starters. NE will be overconfident. the only thing that bothered me about this pointless game was that the clowns on the field that lost were wearing metro uniforms.
Outside of one game in which it was obvious from the lineup that the Metros couldn't care less, where are the Revs getting the confidence that they can beat the Metros?
Mathis fears Franchino. They haven't seen each other since the open cup episode. I've been dying to see these two go at it in mls. Guess we wait until next week...

I was at the game. It was a lot closer then the score shows. We had multiple chances to score (nugent had some chances, some scrums around the net), and we just didn't convert. The Revs, being the lucky morons that they are, got so many goals that were deflected, etc. Obviously you make your own luck, but I feel good for the playoffs. This pleases me, because our B team gave the Revs A team a game. Hall was horrendous. He missed that crucial hand ball (when the score was 3-1). That woudl have changed the game. What I drew from this game is that Grafer is not that good. Forchetti made some mistakes. Lisi is a very good player. He has great touch, and he should be on the field. Do we move Gaven up top to pair with Mathis so we can insert Lisi into the lineup? I personally would do that.
What are you talking about man, it wasn't like they dominated us, especially with our b team out there. They just converted on their chances, it could have easily gone the other way. It would have been a completely different game had Hall called the obvious hand ball at the post. 3-2 (hopefully) at that point. As for Shep, no comment. All I know is that he is 100x better then any of the Revs commentators, who verge on Tyesque stupiddity.
No it couldn't have. You really think the team on the field today was capable of defending as well as the normal team or that they were going to score what would be close to a month's output for the starters? If you do then some people on this team are due for big raises in the offseason.
Of course they can't. That's the whole point though, the Revs didn't dominate our B team, and our second string gave them a run for their money. A couple of different bounces, and we are looking at a very good away tie or maybe even a victory. The score I felt didn't really show the strong effort the team gave today. Both the people I was with agreed. In other words, I am feeling confident for the playoffs with our starting central core. The only question is in relation to Lisi. I thought he was very good out there today, and showed a lot of poise. He should start the next match, and that means pushing Gaven up top.

I agree, he should be fined by the league or the team. I was looking forward to a great season-ending match but all i got was a beating the Revs gave some Metro chumps.
fining Bradley is the stupidest idea ever. you can't fine a coach for resting injured players. especially when that game means absolutely nothing. maybe we should fine him for starting these same players against Rochester last month. the Revs Defense against our B-team was horrible anyway. How many balls were cleared off the line? 5? then look at the Noonan-Forchetti header and that shot Joe Addo put in the net. A lineup full of guys that are getting cut next year and this game was still only determined by lucky bounces. Now look at who we started in the back. In any real game all us metro fans would shout, "aw crap not him..." if any one of them step on the field. this game they were all on at THE SAME TIME. Shep is clearly a moron, Bradley's selection wasnt brilliant, it was expected. Imagine Metro won this game picked up some injuries and we are forced to start the players that played today, then they bomb the playoff series. THAT would be bad coaching.

However, this game was a lot closer then the score shows. The metros had BIG chances, that they blew. If Hall calls the hand ball, and we make the pk it's 3-2. But that is the way the game is played, missed call, different game. Your central duo of Pierce and Llamossa was not good, especially against a depleted Metros lineup. Giving up two goals and a score of other chances was pretty poor. Was it the wrong decision by Bradley? I don't think so. Does it warrent a fine? No, what the hell is that about. I would have played Mathis, but I think he did the right thing in not playing Pope, Jolley, and Amado. They've all had injury troubles this season, and I think the week off was good for them to rest up.
It's about not fielding the most competitive team possible in a game that did mean something and which people paid good money to see. It affects how people see the league. If you have something wrapped up people expect you to rest starters. If something is on the line, like second place, they expect you to field a competitive team. That NE game last weekend must have been a hell of a bruiser if all these guys, coincidentally, got injured enough to miss a start. It's pretty clear where I stand on this from my posts in this thread. I'll not say anymore about it for awhile anyway. Enjoy the kool aide.
Well that didn't last long. Look there were 4 teams today involved in battles for the 2nd place spot in their conference. Only one of these teams decided to field a B team. Draw your own conclusions.
Something no one is pointing out is that that was not exactly the revs' A team in there, either. It was about as close as they'll get to it for the rest of the season (with poosible exceptions of Jay Heaps and Joe Max Moore), but what happened today would look like a photo finish compared to what the revs' real starting lineup would have made of that game.

Mathis was definitely one of the Metros who should have been given the day off. The guy has reportedly been suffering with bronchitis that he can't shake, but you want him to go play in this game over Amado and Jolley who have no reported injury problems at this time? 3. Bradley should absolutely be fined. If I paid 20 or 25 bucks to see what amounted to an exhibition scrimmage, I wouldn't be happy. I have no problem with Pope and Magee and Mathis sitting out because of lingering injury. But not playing any of the following: Jolley or Amado or Leitch or Clarke or Williams (assuming all are healthy)... That is a little much. It hurts what little integrity this league has. 4. (not related to quote). Earlier this year I said I couldn't wait for the games to get off of ESPN2 to get back to MSG. Now, I think I'll just hit the mute button.
Dont you think it would be better to rest players and not risk any key players getting injured heading into the playoffs? The players seem like they are in need of a rest. I mean, this was a meaningless game anyway. We are still playing the same team 2 more times. Would you rather we win this meaningless game with our "A" Team and lose in the playoffs, or would you let the "B" Team give it a shot so our players can be fresh so we can win in the playoffs? How do you think our "A" Teams confidence would be heading into the playoffs against New England if they lost this game? It would show that we cant beat this team. This is obviously what Bob was thinking and I agree with it. The league shouldnt fine him either. Coaches around the world rest players before big games come up and they dont get fined. Its a part of coaching. Its whats best for the team so stop complaining.
Last time anyone checked all the Metro players on the field are on the team and get paid. It's not up to New England to decide our lineup. Possibly Bradley thought the selection was good enough to beat the Revs. the only way to know is to give them a try. I will also cite the 1954 World Cup, first round. Germany, in the same group with the favored Hungarians, played their reserves -- and lost by a margin similar to the Metro.Rev match. But the German coach got a close look at the Hungarian tactics, strengthts and weaknesses. Germany rebounded to move out of their group and eventually meet Hungary in the Final -- which they won. FIFA never fined Germany for not fielding their 'best' team in the opening round. The selection is up to the manager; you play the team that comes to play. Period. I suspect most of the Rev fans -- the ones you pack along one side of the stadium, while the other side remains totally empty in a pathetic attempt to make the numbers look better on the tube -- thoroughly enjoyed the rout. They certainly looked happy and entertained on TV. But I do think the Revs should be fined for trying to hide the true appearance of their attendance from the public. And yes, I am joking.
