Hi, my sweet little peanut butter chocolate potpie...are you all settled now and ready to take on the world again? :D
Awww, you know you can bitch and whine to me anytime after all Iz a wimmenz and a mother hen so listening is my spe-ci-ality :D:p But I guess it must be hard for you, working crazy hours, no time for friends, missing your family. I know you're setting yourself for a bright and prosperous future but that doesn't stop "today" from sucking monkey balls at times. Chin up though, hopefully it'll get better soon.
Don't stress and first year resident go hand-in-hand? I used to watch Grey's Anatomy (until it got uber-corny) you know...:p Or are you under more stress than necessary?
Oh yeah...how did the big interview go? Did the Powers-That-Be give into your charm and sex appeal and meet your demands?
Ya'll and your committees  Next time tell your hospital to hire me and I'll organize that conference in a week. I need a big contract, I just got my bill for health insurance :(:D
There's a weird mentality in Denmark. People get jealous of you if you enjoy any success - even if you've worked really hard to achieve it. The Danish society is very even which has it's good and bad parts. The bad part is that there isn't really any incitament to work hard to get somewhere. If you do you're taxed heavily and people think you're an asshole for wanting (and having) more than them. If you just make all the wrong decisions in life and waste it away, you still live a pretty decent life in DK. It can be a pull in DK as well. ;)
I know EXACTLY what you're talking about! ;) I always thought that fresh out of med school you were an intern, but apparently that makes you a resident. I guess I'm a first year resident then. Do you call the specialists "seniors"? In years to get there it's pretty much the same: 4 years of college + 4 years of med school + 4 years of residency vs. 6 years of med school + 1 year of residency + 1 year of specialty introduction + 4 years of specialization. At least you get a lot of recognition in the US for being a doctor. Over here no one appreciates it. :/
I wonder about that myself sometimes. I won't get to own a Ferrari, so that can't be it. It sucks to be the youngest doctor. All I get to do is take charts and walk around answer the pager/beeper/seeker and being everybody's personal slave. What do you call that function in America? Maybe you have a different structure in the US.
I went from LA to San Fran via Hwy 1. The weather was the best and I wasn't too impressed. San Fran wasn't anything special to either. I did enjoy Yosemite. I liked the National Parks in Utah and Arizona quite alot. Thought Vegas had a certain "plastic" feeling to it, but it was a good place to go out for a few nights. I liked San Diego better than LA and San Fran. The system depends on which hospital you work at and which specialty you're in. I'm in urology at the moment and I'm putting in extra shifts at a psychiatric hospital as well. It's hard work for sure, but none of them are patients 24/7 type of specialties and that's why you can put in 25h shifts there. It doesn't work that way in the ER or in a big medical ward.
Nice! It's a philosophy that actually works. No overthinking, just knowledge and instincts. Glad it was of use to someone other than us Navy bubbleheads (submariners). Good stuff.
I didn't like California that much. At least not the cities. The nature in the southwest was outstanding though! Yeah, I just had a 25 hours shift and I'm pretty beat now. I'm doing what I suppose must be my internship in the US. In Denmark after high school you go to medical school for 6 years. No specialization - after you graduate you're a doctor. Then we do an internship for a year to get our recognition to work as doctors without supervision. After that specialization starts. We then choose in which direction we want our careers to go. Medicine, surgery and all the other different specialties. We do a one year introduction position to the specialty and after that it's four more years of specialization. And then you're recognized as a medical specialist.
Hi Shay. I had a nice visit. :) Why do you think NYC is the sewer of the US? :D It's perhaps the city I like the best of the American ones I've been to.
Alright. Thanks, I love your face :D Now I can go back to walking around the forum with my balls out :D I thought I was losing my mind for a second there....
Dammit, in case you forgot I am a woman! You give me the long story AND details so I can ask probing questions and be all up in yo' biznits, not just here on the periphery :D PM me if necessary, now please :D
LOL. I don't really have the dickish attitude IRL. Well, my old study buddy says I do and his a surgeon, but whatever. :D I'm sure I'd love them too. It's not quite as exciting where I'm at right now unfortunately.
