Hehe, I like the spirit. You will win the ashes and can win the World Cup this year too.
      BTW, belated Merry Christmas :)

In that sense you are right. Ponting was never a good "on/off the field" player/man. That's the difference between him and say Sachin/Dravid. Sachin/Dravid is liked by others countries as well.
I was trying to say that he is a good player. I hope he continues playing good cricket as a player.
But Maca, wining an ashes is never equals to wining a World Cup.But I know the importance of this series and the rivalry, its like India/Pakistan.

No he spoke to pietersen for about 5 seconds.
Yeah he was really wrong because the 'hot'spot was about 6 inches above where the ball passed the bat, but it just shows the pressure he's under.
He's either gotten a neutral reaction or applause when he's come out to bat here. It's for the 09 ashes.
He might get booed now, but I don't think it'd be anything more than pantomime.

Anyway, Australia did superbly for 2 sessions in those conditions - 5/160 off 60 overs. I didn't watch the last one..

Trott should have been runout after a great throw by ricky, but made it in after the bowler didnt take it at the stumps, prior was very dodgy and had the caught behind reversed. Might have batted better in the final session.

The incident itself wasn't good looking but he was having a go at the umpires (from en england pov) not any england player. Once the prior caught behind was reversed later for a no-ball there wasn't a word from ponting, as noted by gower, botham and atherton at the tea break; who to also be fair were stressing that ricky is a very good guy off the field and 'badgering' umps is the only mark against his game or persona. That and that he was applauded this series by england fans following how he was very gracious in 09 throughout through different crowd receptions makes me think nothing will change. Of course some outlets (aka cricinfo) are always out to throw in a dig at anything australian - 15 years of dominance tends to have that effect i suppose ;)

Ranjan madugalle is sri lankan, so no effects of bias there :D

Game over (hope that has a similar effect to 'game on' :D)

Ricky is going through a hell of a lot, i hope he is left to just focus on the batting after this series..he can then go back to making tons of runs because let's not forget that his batting is a masterclass...top 10 of all time. Sky commentary was very good on it at tea time, doing nothing to inflame the matter. Ricky has won a lot of fans in england after how he carried himself in 2009?

exactly, england did make the best of it while australia made the worst; having said that the conditions later for batting should suit batting more....depends on the team though ;)

Is there talk of a rain delay?

Yeh, fair enough. And there is something more respectable about this english team..they seem to be much more comfortable.

But one spell of bowling and then a huge score in the second innings would turn the match on it's head. Because, england did get the better conditions to bowl in yesterday by a lot (overhead skies, grass, pre-heavy roller). So the second innings shouldn't be as hard for australia. Operative word being shouldn't....

Bloody hell.....didnt take you poms long did it....haven't you learnt anything from perth? :p

The ashes have always been next to colin cowdrey's fireplace anyway, they never see any sunlight...hence they haven't been to australia

timing. like a lack of shown by england as they lost 20 wickets for 200 runs. not like you've missed a lot, the quality of cricket is nowhere near 2005, or 2006. Its maybe slightly better than 09. only the winners will make noise after this series. south africa vs india will be higher quality. more great players in that one

if you type cricindia it comes up as cricinfo now and then  it has it's moments but it does indulge in the occasional aussie bashing.
are you in england at the mo?

KP also said he's never seen australia like this. Its a role reversal but I'll tell you its most felt where the media are turning on the australian selectors and the captain. It used to be the english who did that on theirs. Australia has very talented younger players who are making runs in shield cricket. And why hilfenhaus was left out nobody will ever know. (clue : who's wife did he get it on with? ;)) England will win barring a lot of rain.

yeah, very humble. how good are those south africans ;)

this team is building toward being a great team to be honest. It's still 0-0 though, they need to keep going. Australia are a few selection changes away from being on the same track, but england have a head start with being settled for a year.

I was aware of that. I watch the english summers, and this series on Sky's commentary so far. He's a good player, can only get better. Fair play to england, they've been the better team for the last 4 days of this series. Aus selectors are making strange decisions. Very strange. Who knows what's going on, but I can see England retaining the ashes. Whether they'll win the series I'm not so sure.

seen that one. sky got over the awkward phase at the beginning to really become the best team with the best mix. Holding is easy to listen to, botham is drunk, gower is smooth and doesn't impose, the guests are interesting (warne etc), nasser and athers worship australia (:D), lloyd is a clown....
