Just in case you didn't catch it, giff, here's a nice article about Timmy from US Soccer's center circle: http://centercircle.ussoccer.com/fullStory.jsp_1-9535493.html
what did you say lol. Im not sure what your most recent thread start is but im beginning to think i dont want to know. is the damage already done???
giffenbone!! I just stumbled upon some (neg) rep you gave me recently (just kidding about the "neg" part). Congrats on getting your Masters! Now comes the fun part, right? When you're teaching & advising undergrads as part of your duties as a Ph.D candidate/GTF/TA/whatever they call it at your school, I trust that you'll use your position of power to create a few soccer fan converts? I think I remember reading that you're studying Mathematics. Is that correct?
is this where we are assembling the top secret elite strike force to smash Carlos Ruiz's knees with a sludge hammer??
I swear to God, I'm going to ice Ruiz if I ever see him in a dark alley. Or a well-lit Times Square. Someone needs to put a shoulder in his ear.
Good luck! I have my prelims (which are really a formality) in 2 months. I've been reading a book every other day for the past 6 months and I can't take it anymore.
Are the ABC stores in Raleigh as bad as the ones in Durham? Living (and drinking) here is frustrating sometimes...
Dude, that could never happen. But thanks for shaking the very foundations of everything I hold sacred. PS. Only dorks write on their own BigFacebook wall. ;) PPS. Durham says hi.
I interned with the Milwaukee Wave this past season. Being a Meola fan, I'm sure you knew he played for the New Jersey Ironmen this season. Our home opener was against the Ironmen in November. Obviously, I was looking forward to the prospect of running in to him in the lower bowl somehow, if I could only time things right. During some downtime in the second half, I got to watch the game from the corner on ground level. The game went into 2OT and I got to watch both of them from that corner, less than 5 meters from the goal. Meola gave up kind of a soft goal to end it. After the game was over, we had some stuff to clean up, boxes to move and whatnot (you know, intern stuff). My path put me past the Ironmen lockerroom a few times and I was always in between their lockers and the player exit. I kept waiting for a chance to run into him. Walking back from a box run, I saw him talking to the coach. Not wanting to interrupt, I searched through my box for a bit (no one knew it was totally empty and I was just stalling). After the coach walked off, I made my move. I called over "Hey, Tony". He looks over and gives a quick wave. Walk over, really nervous, considering he's pretty much the reason I play 'keeper. My first words to one of my heroes (excluding "Hey") were "Imabigdskjhvb. This is embarrassing". Nothing. I just couldn't say anything coherent. He chuckled and said "eh, it happens". I regrouped and finally had some intelligent things to say. Explained what I was doing down there (the internship and whatnot). Mentioned how my first Wave game was back in the 94/95 season against Buffalo, he was in goal and talked to me and my buddy once in a while during play stoppages (we sat right behind the goal). Stuff about the '94 Cup (the first time I watched international soccer). Congratulated him on his 100th cap. Stuff like that. He thanked me for all the support and wished my luck with the internship. Shook my hand and gave me an earthshaking shoulder pat. I'm pretty sure I'm never been hit so hard outside of a rugby match, the man is a freaking house. And that is how I made an ass of myself in front of a US soccer legend.
so I hop over to olephill's page and who do I see had just been there? None other than everyone's favorite giffenbone!
Not 3 hours into this new BigFacebook format, and my "wall" is already defiled with State graffiti...
Your "Friends" thing said "giffenbone has not made any friends yet." I thought that was funny, and then I felt bad. So here you go.
