But at least it's mainstream and everywhere now. Back then it was rarely in the media except on the 11 o'clock news; police groups, the FBI, and right-wingers were trying to ban it. But it paid a price for that.

Oh yeah. For me, Rap started to die after that. That's the stuff I was raised on, back then it was all about keepin' it real. 50 cent and rappers like that wouldn't have lasted a second in that environment. Also those huge concerts were big too, everybody wanted to see if an MC could hack it on stage as well as he did in his CDs and videos

Yeah, love 'em. Gangsta Rap is popular, but people dig more shit from New York, a lot of people go back and forth between both spots (I lived in Brooklyn for a while.) Since I've worked in clubs and concerts I listen to just about everything.

When I was a kid we did, it was a good soundtrack to all the riots and noise that was going on at the time. Now it's more party stuff.
