This may be ancient history now, but I've given the new changes a month to get used to them.

I still greatly prefer the old system, with visible rep. It helped me. I thought it made the site more enjoyable. I've come here less often because it's gone.

    End mild-mannered rant.

Rep might as well be gone. It seems like you can only give out two a day..it was much better when you could see post count and rep. It was better. Period.

It should be brought back to the old system. If you want to set a limit, at least make it ten a day of rep or something like that. I go to a lot of places here and see a lot of great posts. I'd like to be able to give them rep.

I want to agree with the two previous posters.

Ever since the changes in Big Soccer were implemented--and certainly since the so-called "upgrades" to the system were started (causing constant disruptions in service)--there seems to have been a drop off in enthusiasm and interest. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but there's a strong sense of ennui around here.

Personally, I find myself not navigating around the site as much as I used to. I've been reading it less and find I'm just sticking to certain forums and threads which I've been associated with for a long time but not venturing around much beyond those.

I'm not about to junk Big Soccer--I renewed my membership at the end of January without thinking twice--and perhaps things will pick up with the World Cup and some new blood finding this site and injecting fresh excitement into it. At least I hope so.

I don't think I'm alone in feeling this way.

(As to reputation: I wasn't a big proponent of it at the beginning, but we all got used to it. The only thing which needed to be cracked down upon were the "I'll give you rep if you give me rep" type threads. They should have been nipped in the bud. Otherwise, nobody was getting hurt so nothing drastic really needed to be done. The rep and post counts should be reinstated. I get the impression they were removed more as an act of petulance rather than for the "good" of the site.)

I'd be interested to see stats, like if there is more, less, or no real change in traffic in the last month or so...

I don't think people hitting refresh over and over when the site is down should count as a hit. :D

    Moderator Rules and Guidelines statement

    Where can this be found?

Is this it? Or is there more?
    MODERATOR’S STATEMENT
    ====================
Our community will be liberally managed with a community orientation by a volunteer team of dedicated and responsible Moderators, in a manner that all our content is appropriate to all our audience. We neither condone nor permit racism, personal attacks, or other behavior that in the offline world would violate a person’s civil liberties or might be considered hooliganism. Our Moderators will be held to the highest standards of behavior, such that they may be an example to all the members of our community.

BigSoccer publishes and regularly updates the Moderator Rules and Guidelines statement. This statement shall be kept posted for public (re)view in the Feedback board. Moderators who are seen to violate the guidelines should be first reported to a forum co-mod, and then to the SuperMods, who are the ultimate arbiters. Users who make false accusations shall be considered trollers.

That being said, the word "Trolling" is used too freely on BigSoccer. Unless someone is really going out of their way to stir things up (as judged on a forum by forum basis by the community's mod, consistently with these published standards), they should be able to post whatever they want, so long as they do not make personal attacks, violate the TOS, etc. We recognize this leads to a consistency problem, but dissenting views are not necessarily trolls. A bit of chest-thumping never killed anyone. Higher level general boards for each league and country exist for this very reason and that is where the bulk of inter-team posting should take place. Some Mods have also elected to create "Supporters Club" or "Team NSR" sub-forums, where 100% pro-team sentiment can rule the roost.

It is recognized that the volume of posts on BigSoccer has increased dramatically over the years, and it is not possible to field a mod army large enough to handle all possible issues on a timely basis. Further, all Mods are volunteers and, importantly, members of the community themselves. They have a thankless job for which they do not want, nor should they be expected to, give up their own pleasure in using BigSoccer. Therefore users have as much responsibility as Mods in policing the boards and acting appropriately.

Is there a rule concerning what language can be spoken in the forums? For instance; in the UEFA forum, which includes posters from all of Europe, should welcome and not restrict users to speak their native tongue. This does coincide with the thought of allowing people to post liberally, as long as it's not offensive or against the TOS. Or am I missing something here?

People are free to post in whateer language they choose. You tend to find more of this though in country forums.

Maybe I missed these somewhere along the line but I can't find my post count and the whole rep thing is still confusing.

where do you find rep points you have been given if any?
how do you rep someone? not that i intend to soon but it would be nice to know.

    What does sticky mean?

Is there a "how to" page that isn't filled with tons of posts? just general directions on site use and rules?

Is some of this stuff for premium members only?

Sorry to ask questions like a three year old but knowing this stuff with out having to dig through 1000+ posts would be nice.

    Thank you.

You can either go to any of your posts and simply click your name... or you can use the Navigation Bar at the top of the screen. Click on Quick Links > My Profile. That will show your post count. Click here if you're impatient.

Use the Navigation Bar and click on My BigSoccer.

At the bottom left corner of each post there is an icon that looks like this... [IMG] Click that icon and rep away.

It means the Moderator of that forum has decided that the thread in question is important enought to stay "stickied" at the top of the board. This is a Mod function only, but you may request a thread be stickied. We may ignore you... but you can still request...

This is what you're after. Scroll down to the FAQ's and you'll find most everything you need.

The major item for premium members are avatars. There are also premium boards, arcade functions, etc. Some of my favorite items include my membership card allowing 24-hour access into dark knight's online donut design factory; my Little Orphan Annie decoder ring that tells me to "Drink More Ovaltine"; and a plastic cup in the shape of David Beckham's head (I lost mine, but soccernutter can show you his!).

No problem. Now show me that you learned something here today and throw me some rep! :D

    You're welcome.

To whom it may concern, this is Gabriele Falvo from BS forums. I must say I am not at all happy with the new format they have in place since the upgrade. I was really getting kind of used to the yellow background and thought it had a distinct look to it. I also liked the MY BIGSOCCER on the left hand side which has now been moved to the bottom. I still do not like it. Is there something that can be done about this to change and/or improve it to the way it was or a similar format? Please help!

    One question

How many posts and/or how long do we have to have been a member of this forum to create threads?

    Thanks:)

I've been reading thru most of this thread and it's pretty obvious that the rules/regulations are not clearly defined on Big Soccer. Moreover, the rules that are defined are not easily accessible, imho.

Personally, ive been a member for 2 years and never knew a thing about the "Rep" thingy until last week when I realized i'd been neg repped (but I also had some positive reps to balance them :))

OK, I'm not the smartest bloke here for sure--and I've only ever been interested in reading/discussing footy so never really looked into all the other facets of Big Soccer. But, personally, I'd like to see a link on the main page that lists all the rules/regulations/policies/goals/objectives of Big Soccer. If you go to www.BigSoccer.Com -- show me where a newbie can get the rules easily?

I enjoy BigSoccer very much and am not trying to diminish the hard work and inginuity of the administrators, and all the free time mods give to the boards. Just trying to give some constuctive feedback: whatever the rules are make them easily accessible from all areas in BS.

Cheers and all the best! :)
