well, I guess it is bittersweet... They will probably play zonal, I am guessing. She will probably be opposite Benson, as an offensive defender.
Both left and right backs always push up for the Charge. That's one of the problems from the NY match, when the Charge were up 2-0, still comitting players forward looking for more goals. The tactical awareness to get possession, slow the game down, and always have enough defenders back, is what you do 2 goals up with 10 to go. Possessing the ball, and countering against the other team who exposes itself in the back, is what I'd recommend.
And they really need to bring back the look of these classic uniforms, for several of the teams in the new league. I'm glad I'm bumped this thread. That is a nostalgic look. If the new league wants to take a piece of WUSA, and blend it with a piece of WPS, and a piece of something new, here's how I'd do it. WUSA: Take the look of the uniforms, designs, and colors (plus the nostalgic look of the logos) WPS: Mix in the style and flair of WPS, as far as the aura of the league and its diverse talent New League: Run this with the new business model, and incorporate more feds paying 4 players And with a much improved (user friendly/flexible) website than the two previous leagues had, which is more informative. Incorporate a new sub-section on the side somewhere in the website (bleacher report) type of section, for fans to type in their comments and write articles on their team and the league overall. Have a public Q&A section, for fans to ask questions, that league office members (or team members) have access to go in and answer the fan's questions. Make the website more publicly interactive for fans to use and get answers, and curious fans to read others questions/answers. Make that all public. Open floor plan per se', in terms of the home construction of that platform on the website. And use a "new" playoff system (different from WPS, not that there was anything wrong with it), but a new league must have a new feel for crowning a champion. Don't use names like "Super Semifinal". They don't call it Super AFC semi in the NFL semifinal. If you have two divisions in the future, maybe the semifinal winner is the championship match of that division or conference (such as AFC and NFC in football). Don't call it AFC and NFC here, but you get the point. We don't want cheap looking uniforms, logos, team names, or anything watered down as far at the aesthetics are concerned. Smaller stadiums, reduced budgets, more grass roots low-cost efforts, less big name internationals, and less hype, are all totally fine. But ensure the "feel" and "look" of the teams, the league, and the website, jive together with the right blend of classic and modern. It doesn't take a whole lot of money to do that. Just the right imagination. If classic and modern are blended together just right, you'll get fans old and new to come back, and to jump on board, respectively. There are a lot of WUSA and WPS leftovers (as far as fans are concerned) that can be gobbled up. Plus the new market(s) out there that are getting in to women's soccer, after the past two years (WWC and Olympic runs). Last but not least, hopefully this league is sturdy enough to not take sh*t from anyone. No Sham-wow guy, or pop-a-dent infomercial CEO, in charge running things anymore. I don't care if it's Mrs. Butterworth. She might have money, but she ain't running this league. The league, feds, and its officials are the backbone of the league. Not a USB phone device wizard, or Sham-wow founder. I bought a MagicJack awhile back for less than $10. That damn USB thing is brilliant. But what the hell does it have to do with a women's professional soccer league? Extremities.
