Basically this, and in the long run, I just don't see a player that is rated as "good" in the RW position to be a starter for us. Unless things change and he improves more in that position.

Again fair enough but it's been years now we haven't even had "good" on the RW, mostly just nothing, little to no contribution, even when Gareth was here, who are the RW's killing it out there that we should be looking at who are performing at a higher level than Rodrygo, who is the player who is more versatile and talented, are we getting Kylian or Haaland? is Endrick the answer before he even sets foot in Madrid but Rodrygo is not having shone on the biggest stages already, we dismiss some of our own clearly talented players way too early, personally i hope management sees things the way i do and we don't waste talent.

So because i'm biased and a Rodrygo fan , even though i hate to get totally blinded by stats, (i do like to watch the players and see what they are actually doing on the pitch) i did look at some stats of some of the other "true" RW's and just general attackers out there, although having to play all across our frontline so not in a stable position Rodrygo stacks up well against all of the ones i looked at, only Salah is somewhat better, Mahrez, Gnabry, Dembele, Coman Musiala, Doku, he's there or thereabouts with all these players, better than some a little behind others, we have to have faith in our talent

I like Rodrygo. He is clutch, great in tight spaces and has terrific finishing. I don't think his future is on the wings. But I think he could definitely work as a false 9 if he accepted that the position requires selfless plays and making your partners the alphas in the forward line/attack sort of like Firmino with Mane/Salah, Benz with Ronaldo/Bale and Jesus with Mahrez/KDB etc. As long he tries to compete at the scoring charts with our attacks we as a whole will look disjointed with him as a false 9.

This suggests either (1) he’s a poor finisher or (2) he works himself into great spots and has gotten unlucky. Right?

The eye test tells me which of those is the case.

Rodrygo scored plenty of goals in the big games. Something tells me that the stats will be different starting this month.

I like to see the minute spread on those. How many efforts are when the team is ahead and when the team is behind? Usually when you're chasing a game you're more reckless, and Rodrygo feels like a player we've thrown in there when we're down more frequently than not.

When dealing with soft stats like xg you need to consider the circumstances.

Stats are only as good as their interpretation.

No new posts in this thread for 15 days. Some new Rodrygo quotes:
“I always want to play and I tell the coach that I have to play, but he tells me to be calm. I respect him, because we have very good players, but I’m there, when I’m on the field I help my team, and I want to to be a starter."

“I like to play more than just a ‘10’. But the truth is that I can play in any attacking position, although if they give me a choice I would say midfielder.”

Q: Which footballer will be a star in the future?

    A: Rodrygo.

I like the player, but I do think he needs to take this opportunity a bit more serious. He should put on a little weight for example. His close control in tight spaces is very good, I like him central more than on the right but he's more than serviceable on the right side. He should also get opportunity on the left too. I think Jr is playing too much at times.

More weight is not gonna help. His body type is what it is, and this is the best version of it. Hes a great player to have, but I'd still flip him for profit and a true right wing like Diaby or Doku.

Thats crazy to say this is the best version of his body. He is 22. Further weight and agility training will elevate his play.

This isn't Fifa Career Mode. He isn't to get faster or more agile than he is.

He would only become less agile with more weight... Thing is in terms of assets Rodrygo has the best ratio between potential amount of funds raised in case of transfer vs. replaceability in terms of contribution (by freeing up the right wing for a natural player there). I love his game since day one, but to me hes more an asset at this point.

Do you know what agility is? Never said anything about getting faster.

Yes, I think Rodrygo's reputation and national team status might be a bit flattering.

I agree, Rodrygo has had every opportunity at this point to make that RW his own, but it's definitely not where we're going to see the best version of him. I like the player, makes scoring goals look easy, but in the long term I'm not sure where I see him as a permanent fixture in the starting 11.

Let's see, Camma comes on last season, and everyone thinks he's a game changer and untouchable now, Rodrygo actually scores goals and changes games helps us win titles and is a threat when he plays more often than not, actually looks like he knows what he's doing when he has the ball, just like Musiala, stacks up well numbers wise against most young attackers and "natural" RW's out there playing for the biggest teams, he's disposable and his reputation is flattering, strange.

for a player who is constantly beating players one on one and at times is trailing two and three players trying to stop him too much is made of how fast he must be to succeed, maybe he needs to be Usain, some players are extremely quick some players are smart, like Benz, i wouldn't be letting Rodrygo go anywhere, we just don't appreciate the players we have, some player somewhere else is always better......

Rodrygo has had a decent season so far. What he should realize is that he has started 25 games for RM this season. So he shouldn't be like he isn't getting enough minutes and think whether he has taken advantage of that many opportunities this season.

You can still build speed and quickness in your 20s (by mid-20s it's more maintenance).

Good player, but feeling like his progress has been stalled and I don’t see him breaking out to be one of the top 5 players in coming years.

We signed Gago, Higuain, Marcelo in the same winter. Marcelo arguably became a club legend, Higuain a very good player for us, and Gago was quickly forgotten.

They don't all pan out but I think it's worth making these kinds of moves.

Also, Marcelo was hot garbage for quite some time (ok maybe that's a bit rough). Players can discover their best selves all of a sudden with small tactics or positional changes or a new coach. I still have faith in Rodrygo becoming elite, he has the talent imo. Look at Rashford this season, at one point I thought he was garbage too, but looks like he's stellar now.

First, we don't need every player to be a top 5 player whatever that actually means, who are the players his age playing where he does that you can see being a top 5 player in the coming years and what is that view based on, i'd be interested to hear what the criteria is, second how can so much faith be paced in all our other youngsters but so little be placed in a player that has already proved decisive for us in both the league and the CL, baffling to me
