Hopefully, Marsch doesn't think USSF is too much of a hot mess to take the job if offered.

Who cares if there's not a GM or Sporting Director or whatever other desk job that hasn't been filled before the coach; hire him!

Well, I'd say we already have a song for when Jesse Marsch stinks it up.

    Not a chance.

The reason national team jobs are attractive is that, at least in relatively stable federations (ie not Haiti or Namibia) its a guaranteed four year contract for very good money. For a coach, that's as good as it gets.

The coach really shouldn't need to worry about who is running the office. His job is on the field.

However, the useless President of USSF has proclaimed that no coach will be hired until the two vacant jobs are filled. If she holds to that ( and doesn't make a back door wink-wink deal before then) it could be a while, and Marsch may get tired of waiting.

Meanwhile in the youth ranks, the USA U-17 was up 2-0 at the half over Barbados in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Guatemala. They exploded (and a bit of unluckiness from Barbados) and scored another three very late in the second half.

Next up: Trinidad on FS1 Monday night at 7:50pm.

While I do agree with you, I have heard of some coaches turning down a national team appointment because they love the day-to-day on the practice pitch that is much more prevalent with a club.

Southampton fired their coach and with a wish to return to the tactics of previous coach Ralph Hassenhuttl (who previously coached at Leipzig and Salzburg) they are now very interested in…… former Leipzig and Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch.

There was talk in the weeks after the World Cup the Berhalter was looking to return to the club game for exactly that reason. It was speculation, so nobody really knows how much truth there was to it, but it certainly appeared to be a factor in his thinking.

The next U-17 game is at 5pm Saturday vs Dominican Republic. It's only on Fox Soccer Plus (because, according to my guide, FS2 has horse racing stuff) and Vix+.

If they win that game, the next game will be Wednesday night.

    The future is bright.

The U-17s had a bit of a scare tonight vs Guatemala, but ended up winning.

It's refreshing seeing a team (US) that can go up by multiple goals, having an opponent try to claw back and the team (US) not collapse.

The USA has qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup for a record 18th time, matching only Brazil.

To do so in front of the home country's fans in their national stadium, well done indeed.

Next up: Friday night at (I believe) 8pm vs either Canada or Puerto Rico. Those teams play tomorrow.

A potential final on Sunday vs Mexico is looming...

Well Solina better be the GK of the future

Eddie Gaven is currently in goal after two yellow card penalty challenges. 3-1 Mexico. US controlled the game better using slightly more aggressive Berhalter tactics, but Mexico's Route 1 style was killer.

That's from another thread...but maybe it's more than a coincidence. I stole this from elsewhere.

Anthony Hudson (interim USMNT manger) has been approached by the Oman Football Association with the proposition of taking their head coach job, while Iran continues to show interest as well, per Lizzy Becherano/90min.

Anthony Hudson sucks, why the hell would anyone hire him? I just don’t get it.

They can do better. He’s literally the worst coach in MLS history.

I'm not gonna argue that - I will say though, there was a very good interview in The Athletic about him and his interim tag with USMNT. I walked away pleasantly surprised by his comments. Definitely feel like he has grown as a person and coach since then

Less than three weeks away from an international window that has US playing our last two CONCACAF Nations League games.
Still no word on a new coach.
    Not great, Bob.

Latest is there will not be a new coach until after the summer. It's not an appealing job because of the lack of WCQ, the drama, and lack of pay. This Nations League is not important; this fall's/next spring's Nations League matters more because making it to the semis or winning a play-in with one of the other three quarterfinal losers is necessary to be in Copa America.

Not making it to the Semis this year will make qualifying harder because, under the new format, the semifinalists from the last nations league get a bye (and more open international windows to schedule better opposition).

In the upcoming window, get ready to see players like Taylor Booth, Paredes, Tillman, Scally, LDLT, and Pepi, who have all had good post world cup performances. Musah, Gio, and Dest are all dealing with fitness issues or overuse for Musah.
