I’m not about to lay down a passionate defence of John Henry, Tom Werner and perhaps Mike Gordon here, but my understanding is that with an empire of that size, Henry et al. care about one thing and one thing only: the bottom line. Is the asset producing revenue, turnover and profit? And in increasing amounts?

If yes, then they won’t give a flying f.uck about Kornmayer, Fabinho or Michael Edwards. If no, they’ll go out and hire Jurgen Klopp. They’ll provide the readies from time to time to buy, say, Bellingham (ahem!), but by and large they expect their sporting assets to be self-sustaining, self-funding (ask some RedSox fans). And when the numbers need to be shaved too closely too often, cue a sale of some sort or a new economic model.

Sure you’ll have the PR exercises of turning up at Anfield and for CL Finals, etc. wearing a Liverpool scarf, but any notion that Henry et al. care passionately about the football of Liverpool Football Club is misplaced. They care about the asset and the asset only.

If there was more money to be made losing in the CL semifinals with huge TV money and less money in winning it, with fewer TV appearances, they’ll take the semis everyday (but not say so in public). And as odious as that sounds, the truth is they’re significantly better owners than 90-95% of the others. You think the Saudis really spent years pining for the fjords of Tyneside?

Financially we can survive a season, maybe 2, outside the CL. When it becomes 3 years, then we’ll see more than 1-2 marquee signings.

I think the "needs" of a squad rebuild might be being greatly overestimated.
Unless one is discounting as not good enough, Carvalho, Calvin, Doak, Harvey, Curtis Jones and Bacjetic
I don't happen to think these guys don't cut it.

Also, one could take the position that Gomez is good enough.
Given that and the power we have up front when the team isn't bloody injured, a slower re-build might be fine.

Given that. if we could secure Bellingham and a good solid replacement for Naby, the squad wouldn;t look half bad next year. That amount might be available in the summer.
Then, we go agian until the next summer when they bring in a couple more new faces.

The fact is that if Diaz and Jota and Nunez had all being always available for all games this year and we were 10 point ahead of where we are in the league, which we could be, even with a maladjusted midfield, no one would be fretting in quite this manner....

It all may well be the case of cause - but I would point out to her if I were editing her article that this bit-

    upload_2023-2-3_16-17-8.png

(as stated) has absolutely nothing to do with the notions which propel the rest of this article of lament.

Remember when we beat Leicester 2-1? 2 OGs by Wout Faes?

Wout Faes is our top scorer since the WC. :)

Twice as many goals as any other Red this year and Wout Faes still can't get a start for Liverpool [IMG]

I just saw a post on another site that said Cody Gakpo was counseled to wait until summer and sign with ManU, which was his first choice destination...

I have not been impressed with his play since he came to LFC...

Chelsea and Liverpool are looking to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Oihan Sancet.

Liverpool will invite offers for Joel Matip as they look to rebuild their squad next season.

Liverpool are interested in a summer swoop for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who is attracting mounting attention for his exploits in Spanish La Liga…

Klopp seems to like a smaller squad where everyone feels they can contribute. He runs a tight ship. He is loyal to his players, on an almost personal level, hence the great rapport he tends to enjoy. The challenge now is dealing with key men who are not up to standard ATM. As I see it, Fabinho and van Dijk allowed you guys to skate away with the risky high line. They primarily held the fort. Having battled so hard on so many fronts last season has worn players out psychologically, plus age is catching up on other key figures. In my view, Klopp has to be more pragmatic and adjust tactically for now. He has to restore confidence and belief. A 4-4-2/4-3-3. Salah as a more classic, hug the chalk line winger like he once was, but given flexibility to play more like he does now if Liverpool are comfortable enough to switch back to usual shape. Nunez and Gakpo up top, more centrally positioned to their strengths. Both are big men, great targets in the box. Feed them crosses. Robertson on LM, Tsimikas behind at LB. The rest more or less the same. Surest way to score in football: put crosses into the box. Simple, effective.

Apparently Ward is the leading candidate to become the DoF for Ajax....

That doesn't speak well to the behind the scenes mess at Liverpool.

Liverpool and Manchester United ‘intend to sign’ Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani next summer.

Liverpool are thought to be keen on signing the Athletic Club Bilbao midfielder Oihan Sancet at the end of the season for €20 million.

Liverpool might be ones to watch after Arsenal's failure to land the player, as they’ve had a historical interest in Moises Caicedo since from before he moved to Brighton.

Liverpool are prepared to sell goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher should he request to leave the club this summer, according to reports.

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, with his contract talks having broken down, according to reports.

Liverpool are testing the ground on a move to bring Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams to the Premier League this summer, according to reports.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfielders and the latest name in the lime light is that of Yunus Musah.

Liverpool and Manchester United are both chasing the signature of RB Leipzig defender Joško Gvardiol.

Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham as he has rejected a move to Chelsea and PSG.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to take his rebuilding of Liverpool to never-before-seen levels with a wholesale clearout set to see as many as 10 players depart Anfield this summer.
(Named are milner, keita, AOC, fabinho, melo, firmino, adrian, kelleher, phillips, matip)

A report from TeamTalk has linked the Reds with Federico Chiesa.

Liverpool scouts have identified Fabricio Díaz, who has played more than 100 senior games for Liverpool Montevideo in Uruguay already in his career, as Fabinho's successor.

Liverpool could rival Manchester United and Arsenal for the signing of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to a fresh report.

Liverpool have been interested in Italian international and Juventus star, Federico Chiesa, for some time and a former PL star has now backed the Reds to sign the attacker.

Inter Milan want Roberto Firmino on a free transfer.

Liverpool are putting plans in place as they look to win the race to sign Birmingham City’s George Hall in the summer.

Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Liverpool, will ‘send scouts’ to watch PSV Eindhoven centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. The left-sided center back is on loan at the Dutch giants from rival Everton.

Liverpool and other Premier League clubs are ready to test Chelsea's resolve over Mason Mount in the summer, a report has claimed after the England star rejected a 7 year contract.

The rumours that Josko Gvardiol has offered himself to Real Madrid are not true. The player, a lifelong Liverpool fan, is open to a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool have now reportedly made Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva one of their top transfer targets next summer.

Newcastle United are reportedly confident that they’re leading the race for the transfer of Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada.

Liverpool are working on a deal to sign centre-midfielder Khephren Thuram behind the scenes, according to Jacque Talbot.
    MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!

Liverpool are targeting a move for Anderlecht’s Bart Verbruggen as their newest goalkeeper with Caoimhin Kelleher looking set to the leave the club.

Nottingham Forest-linked Jonathan Tah is reportedly wanted by Liverpool and Newcastle.

Will Spearman has been appointed as Liverpool's new director of research, and it's an undeniably positive appointment from FSG as a way of helping Jürgen Klopp.
This is positive news as we've needed to fill these back office roles and this gives us some continuity - but only will be successful if he is given license to back fill with talent behind him.

Tuttosport has claimed that Liverpool has 'moved first' in its pursuit of Perr Schuurs, but that Torino will want in the region of $53m (£44m/€50m) for the defender.

Liverpool are now eyeing a club-record move to sign Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.
Just what we need, a record breaking attacker.

Liverpool are considering a summer transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, a player described as Marcus Rashford 2.0.

Liverpool reportedly held talks in January about signing Bayer Leverkusen central defender Jonathan Tah, and could make a move this summer.

Nice central midfielder Khephren Thuram, son of French legend Marcus Thuram, has emerged as Liverpool's long-term successor to Fabinho.
