Talk about pre-season form, the Quakes social media person managed to blow it on both goals...

    First goal:
    "Espinoza > Miro > Jebo"
Actually it was Monteiro -> Espinoza -> Ebobisse

    Second goal:
Mistakenly credited to Kikanovic when it was actually scored by Munie

Just wanna say the Galaxy had a huge protest outside their preseason game today and the boycott and movement is starting. I wouldn't be shocked if Klein resigns soon.

It's very interesting to see the unity the Riot Squad and Angel City Brigade have done to unite and push the protest. I for one am a fan. If the Casbah was still around they would have done something by now.

Quite a number of Pro-Bruce Arena signs.

First impression is we still play like Covelo’s team. Still too slow, lack of movement.

Man, that is bizarre, the 2nd goal. I was sure it was Benji because I couldn't see Munie (sitting on the same side as the camera), and Benji absolutely gaslit like he was the goal scorer. The running to the sideline celebrating? His teammates swarming him? Weird. Poor Munie had to come back to join the "Benji goal" celebration. I think only Bouda was hanging around Munie and appeared to be saying "Wait I thought you scored that goal?" He had the view from the other side.

Is Munie #23? I thought that was Argen. He played pretty well.

    So Argen didn’t play?

    Why is JT not playing?

Akapo? Why is Beason still playing LB?

    Some thoughts on the match:

    - The main notable tactical switch relative to last year was that Luchi had Yueill and Monteiro playing side by side (Monteiro on the left, Yueill on the right) as sort of duel 10/8's, with Gruezo behind them. Last year it was more of Yueill playing an 8 and Monteiro more up front with really free reign to go anywhere to find the ball and try to move it. So it looks now more like a 4-1-4-1 or 4-1-2-3, depending on where you want to put the wide attackers.

    - Seemed like there was so little space for the Quakes to operate on the attack. I think it was because were were playing a very high line most of the time - essentially at the center line, so everything was packed in on that side. That made for some "interesting" counter opportunities for MBU.

    - Gruezo shows that he is obviously a very good player. No doubt he'll help us this year.

    - Other starters who played well IMO: Monteiro, Jebo, Espinoza (except for corners). Kind of the same story with Cade - some good runs but final ball not there.

    - Of the subs, hard to tell. There was not much flow to the game at that point. Niko looked lively every time he got the ball but didn't get it very much after the first 5-10 minutes or so. Daniel Munie! Looked very solid, plays quick, scored a goal, and made one pretty effective foray into the offense toward the end (which I think was a sequence that ultimately led to the corner that he scored a goal on). We may really have something there. I liked him better than Ågren, and I like Ågren better than Beas(t).

    - Baldi didn't look bad. I wasn't sure who it was at first because he looked shorter and stockier than I imagined. I thought Skahan [correction - that was Richmond] was not useful at right wing. I'd prefer to see him and TT reversed. Sad to see TT back at right back.

    - Speaking of right back, what's up with Akapo? Still not ready to go?

Munie's not a Stanford guy though. He's from U of Indiana.

Agren is #23. Munie was playing w/o a number on his back. That's the first indignity. The second is that Benji tried to steal his goal :).

Is #20 Skahan or Richmond? #20 was not effective as right wing in this game.

Ah, you're right. That was Richmond. I thought his hair looked a little darker than Skahan's. But yes, I agree, he was not that effective on the right wing. Bouda was a little better on the left but at times held onto the ball too long and ultimately didn't make plays with his opportunities. Had one decent chance after cutting into the box that was blocked.

Oops, I just assume all Quakes draft picks are from Stanford!

That would be a reasonable approximation. I think all of their current "college homegrowns" are from Stanford though.

A light to moderate mist toward the end of the game. Not too cold.

Drizzle. It rained steadily, including some heavy rain near Gilroy, until about San Jose on the ride home.

I am in preseason form. I thought Cowell, not Ebobisse, scored. I assumed #3 was Akapo because I figured Gonzalez started his first choice 11 and that Marie had given him his old number. Also, I didn't notice and forgot about Simon Dawkins for Monterey Bay.

For the first time since 2007 in East Hartford, CT and for one of the few times ever, I paid to park. Still, I used a general CSUMB lot a block further than the stadium parking for the normal $5 permit price.

It was fairly full. If this game was an indication, they have a nice little fanbase. The people are there, even in sketchy weather, and they are into it.

Most of the seats are benches with uncomfortable back rests. It's a roughly 6-inch square column that runs parallel to the ground, with no slope, so when you sit back against it, if you're not sitting exactly 90 degrees you just hit the top edge of the back rest with your back, and it's basically like someone poking you in the back. But better than nothing I suppose. A little bit.

For those of you who came out I hope you had a good time and enjoyed our little stadium. In case you missed it Joe Cannon was on the MBFC bench, no formal announcement that I have heard but it seems he has joined the staff.

Had a very brief chat with Chris Lietch, we thanked him for the Quakes coming down to play, and for finally getting active south of Morgan Hill with their "investment" in Salinas area soccer.

I'd be curious to know where most of the fans are coming from. My guess is the Salinas / Seaside / Marina areas? It didn't seem like a "Pro-Am" crowd :). I wonder if any students come in from the dorms?

I would say most are from Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. We do see quite a few CSUMB hoodies and other clothing on the youngins at the Stadium.
