What do you have against trying to market to an audience your trying to capture... as a latina and mexican decent, I love havijg Mexican and Mexican American stars on the team i love to see latinos and South Americans on the Quakes just as much as a white american kid. But u if you want to attract fans and new fans you need to bring in some big names to capture them. Maybe they fall in love with this club and we gain more fans.

Missael Espinoza captured me as a 7 year old. I remember everyone around us was buzzing about possibly getting Garcia Aspe, or Hermosillo and being morbidly disappointed in getting Guzman.

We lost a lot of the Latino Audience from 96-00 because of lack of Hispanic stars.

Talked to some folks from the Chico area last summer who said that it’s regularly in the 110-degree range for them in the summer, or at least it was last summer. That’s a pass for me.

I cant stand your consistent narrative view and distaste for forginers. What do you have against Europhiles and Latinophiles. And why do you need to add philies after the word.

Chico's ok but it used to be a hell of a lot better before the wrong element moved there.

it's a kind of xenophobia with @JazzyJ and its ignorance. the diversity among Quakes fans is pretty amazing with all areas of the world represented. I expect most of our fans also watch globally and support teams and countries from all over the place.

Yeah well its a double standard here. I grt reported and all my posts edited by our PC mods but they allow xenophobes and borderline racisim.

As a mexican its extremely degrading to see myself and all latinos grouped as a "Latinophile" as if were different and shouldnt have Mexican Players or players from other countries.

This man always posts about his anti- European and Latin players coming to this team. Hes put out his ideology and propaganda everytime people herr ppst about other teams internationals etc.

Id rather see a stadium full of caduals then 40% full of hardcores.

You must do things to connrct with and cater to the cultures in this Metropolitian area. My family was hooked as i said because of Espinoza and the Clashes out reqch in the early years to the Mexican Communities and pockets. Shit ass Bridgewater promised everyone A big name Mexican and Latinos were excited and we got fat ass Daniel Guzman for 4 games. So as time went on thr Mexican fans stopped caring.

We had a small spike of Salvadorians in 1999 when Diaz Arce and Cerritos were up top for us but that went away when Diaz Arce went to Tampa.

We also had a decent spike first few months of 2000 with Khodadad Azizi.

We seemingly have a new fans here on big soccer who are excited to see Baldisimio but had to sit through a number of xenophobic and debates and jokes aboit his nationality and race.

It shouldnt matter who, what, when, or where plays for this club.

Great people watch European and Mexican Leagues... great! They say MLS sucks its a retirement league. Who cares, lets try to figure out how to change their minds. Get someone they care about, some will come to watch, and some will fall in love with the Quakes. Thats how you build an all inclusive culture.

David Beckham sold out more games then any player in MLS history on name alone. It changed the landacape of MLS and started the bridge to bigger names and bigger stars.

Thierry Henry, Marquez, Donadel, Piatti, Huiguian, The TFC 3 currently, Schweinsteiger, Pulido, Kaka, Almiron, Sosa, Pity Martinez, Lodiero, Huckerby, Rooney, Ljundberg, Juan Pablo Angel, Cimon, Vela, Rossi, Bale, Tello, Bounanga, Chicharito, Cabral, Etc have all come to this league and brought fans with them.

We sell out Stanford for the Galaxy and sellout or come close to Levi for LAFC.

Id argue we have more LAFC and Galaxy fans then Quakes fans in SJ. Why brcsuse they have good f*ckin talent with a history of clout names.

The biggest names weve ever had... Huckerby, Donovan and Wondolowski. But on a grand scale... Donovan and Huckerby.

Im sure this post will be edited by our team.

    Enjoy people.

I played on Brian Holmes’ team for 20 years, and we had players from every corner of the world: US, GB, Latin America, Iran, China, Hungary, Israel - you get it. The Bay Area soccer community is big, broad, and diverse in so many ways. It’s beautiful when the Quakes have a diverse pool of talent to mirror the local playing community.

What he's getting at is local soccer fans who like Euro or Latin soccer and watch games on TV, but refuse to watch, follow or pay attention to MLS. I don't worry about that too much. We may or may not get some of those fans. But attracting other fans is possible with a winning team. The fact that we've sucked butt for so long really hurts both attendance and media notice.

Oh and the philes ending means someone who loves that thing. The opposite of phobia. So Europhiles are people, presumably US people, who love all things (soccer in this case) that are Euro. (ProgPhiles, people who love progressive rock and will travel to Montréal or Europe to see concerts!)

I watch MLS because it's here. It's our league. I don't much care for Premier teams because I can't go see them. Well, I could, but I'm not going to. Maybe I should plan a vacation around watching soccer games in other countries? Like go to Germany and or Austria and watch some games. Go to Costa Rica and take in at least one LDA match. That would be fun. But it's a bit spendy too.

    Go Quakesfans!!

The city is full of vegetarian-friendly restaurants. It's great for cross-country skiing in winter. Excellent for hiking on the mountain in summer. There's at least one nice golf course in town. It's full of crunchy granola types,(thus the veggie restaurants) who are strange enough that I look normal in that town. There are a couple of cool bookstores. They have an excellent sporting goods store. There's at least one nice art gallery and some artistic stuff going on in town. It's a very walkable town. They have at least a couple of good hotels. And the mountain is freaking awesome.

Also, it's almost halfway between me and my pals in the Bay Area, so we can meet up there for some brew and bad golf.

Much of that applies to Eureka too, except substitute Redwood National Park for Mount Shasta.

    Go Quakesfans!!

To be clear, when I use "europhiles" at "latinophiles" I just mean people who are primarily or exclusively fans of euro soccer or Latin American soccer. That is all. Nothing wrong with that, but my question is how easily we can turn them into Quakes fans by signing some of the let's say somewhat name players from those leagues.

FWIW I'm actually an advocate for taking bigger swings on our intl signings. Let's say fewer swings - because we have a core roster with relatively inexpensive good value homegrown and veteran MLS players, and therefore more $ to take bigger swings on fewer intl signings.

We used to say 'eurosnob' -- 'phile' means kind of the same thing without the pejorative implication.

There have been many debates here over the years (gah, almost 20!) I've been on this forum re "how do we attract those people who love soccer, but not our league/team?" The FO seems to try to draw in different subgroups with its various theme nights and promotions, but they're going to sign the players they're going to sign based on affordability and value. Could the team attract more fans of other leagues if it focused on big names? Well, maybe. I'm not sure it would be worth it, but others can disagree.

That's the discussion some people are trying to have, and I fail to see any racism in it.

Its highly racist or at the very least bigoted. As a mexican i dont want a middle aged white man to group me together with the word Latinophile. Its derogatory and puts all of us in a secular group.

Just like clowning even in joke Baldisiamo and his heritage.

Again I prove my points double standards here.

And now said guy is backtracking when blasted.

This is a silly discussion. You don't have to be a member of any specific subgroup to follow a team or a league. Plenty of Bay Area soccer fans who follow teams in places that they have no ethnic, cultural, or historic attachment to.

But trying to jigger the roster to bring in outstanding players from other leagues can get tricky. Without a lot more market research -- I don't know if the FO has done much -- you're not going to know which player would be a draw.

Sadly, there are few Italian born players left playing in Italy's top flight.

Probably why Italy can't qualify for the World Cup.

It was cool when you had 5-6 foreigners per club but having 11 different nationalities starting every week with only 4 domestic players across an entire roster is just too much.

I’m all for foreign born players but there should be a limit.

That should be the case in every domestic league including MLS.

That's interesting, since he attacks me for watching other soccer leagues even though I am a long time season ticket holder and am every bit (or more!) a supporter of the Quakes as he is.
So, he means that, or he is just being an a$$-hole.:)

True story - one of the teams we used to play were called “the Azzurri” made up solely of Italian immigrants. They were good, but would always fall apart in the second half, start sweating at each other (in Italian), and inevitably lose to us. :whistling::ROFLMAO:
