People are reporting that the free trial of Apple TV+ is all you need to get the $79 price for MLS Season Pass.

You can find a friend and share apple accounts too. I might share with @Beerking if he needs it.

I saw Scott mentioned on Reddit that it looks like all MLS games from last year are available to watch as full game replays. That’s a bonus I didn’t expect. Not that there were a lot of Quake games that would be enjoyable to watch again….

Indeed! Even the stadium photo used for our listed home games is of the more recent PayPal Park variety rather than of the older Avaya Stadium or Earthquakes Stadium variety that had been often used elsewhere lately.

I know, it’s a small detail that some may not care about, but that correct attention to detail is definitely appreciated and makes Apple’s MLS coverage look even that much more professional.

It’s all very well done. :)

I think that they’re short because they’re part of an overall league series that needed to remain digestible, particularly to view for free. I imagine that future features will likely be a bit longer for subscribers.

Also appreciated, though I did see a link to watch the 2003 Earthquakes-Galaxy comeback playoff game that seemed to be only for subscribers (under the MLS Classics category).

Speaking of the aforementioned correct attention to detail: the description caption to that game starts off with “In a Western Conference Semifinal California Clásico…”, correctly alluding to the fact that the San Jose Earthquakes - Los Angeles Galaxy rivalry as a whole is called the California Clásico rather than only the annual Stanford Stadium game as the current FO has incorrectly stated in recent years (even so far as saying that the California Clásico “began in 2012”). For a company like Apple that’s still new to the league to concentrate on getting even the little details correct is quite impressive.

This is particularly evident in the Media Day interviews with Jeremy Ebobisse and Cade Cowell which were obviously filmed in the really sharp resolution that’s been used on both Apple TV’s Friday Night MLB games and Prime Video’s Thursday Night NFL games. If that’s what MLS games - and particularly San Jose Earthquakes games - will be looking like on screen this season, then we’re really in for a treat. :)

And since I currently already subscribe to Apple One (which includes Apple TV+), they’ve unsurprisingly stated that I’m eligible for the reduced subscriber price ($12.99 monthly or $79 annually), so hopefully I’ll be able to take advantage of that soon.

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

We unsubscribed from ESPN+ and am already missing it (ha, thanks to Leeds in the FA cup). I’m thinking of getting the Disney+ Basic Trio, which includes ads, in order to save a few bucks.

Does anyone subscribe to that? How do the ads work in movies? Do the ads come just in the beginning, as in peacock, or are they scattered thru out? And I assume u can’t fast forward thru them?

That's what we have. The Hulu ads are really irritating, content wise. They try to be edgy or something, but are just off putting. It's strange. You can't fast forward through them either. I don't remember seeing ads on the Disney stuff we watch, which is mostly just the star wars shows and Pixar movies. I'm bracing myself for when and if my son gets into Disney, then I will be able to tell you all about it!

I even noticed that they use a picture of the Rose bowl for the upcoming El Traffico game which will be played in the Rose bowl. I haven't yet verified if they correctly used Levi's and Stanford (my guess is no). Also, I watched a few of the Drone videos and they are pretty cool. Hope we get one for PPP.
Yes, after I posted my comment I found that they have old games to watch (both recaps and full games). They have the entire 2022 season and as you mention classic games. All of them require the MLS Season Pass - and yes I found myself clicking the subscribe button :)

I really, really hope Apple finds a way to improve the video quality of Quakes games because going to watch old 2022 games the poor video quality is immediately noticeable. The pitch looks like a swirling blocky sea of green and at times the resolution is so poor I can't read the numbers on players backs. I also noticed that the video quality of other non-Quakes games is much better. I can only speculate that somebody figured out a way to save money by lowering the video quality. Hopefully Apple can fix that.

OK, I have checked the Levi's and Stanford games. They correctly show that the games will be played at Levi's and Stanford however they don't yet have stadium photo's so instead they just show the team logos with no stadium picture. I assume they just need to get the photographer out there to take photo's of those stadiums and hope they can do that before the games are played.

I do give them credit for not just defaulting to a photo of PPP. Honestly this is better than I assumed it would be. Somebody cares about the details and I'm sure if they had photos of those stadiums they would have used them.

My comment was meant somewhat sarcastically as I am also one of the gray hairs on this board. (although I am technically too young to be a boomer myself by just 70 days)

I have just logged on to Apple TV's MLs content. As the season begins, I will have to find out how to watch a replay without knowing the score first. It seems that the MLS landing page and the SJ page potentially can give away the score.

There’s probably only so much improvement they or anyone else can do on older footage originally taken using previous generation cameras. :(

That’s always been true of previous generational technology mismatches as well, though, such as when trying to play a DVD (480p) on a Blu-ray Disc player (1080p) and so on.

I feel like the excitment and discovery people have for this new stream service is the same level of hype 90% of you had when you got a VCR 50 years ago.

Not quite 50 years (late 1970s) since VCRs became ubiquitous, although invented in 1956!

Or at least a little over 40 years ago in my case, as my family got its first-ever VCR sometime in the very early 1980’s (1982/1983 or so). :)

In any case, for me the excitement for this new stream service is more evolutionary than revolutionary like the VCR was.

I’ve watched (and still watch) other stream services before, but Apple TV seems to have improved and refined certain aspects of it - but the VCR allowed us to record TV shows to watch later and to watch previous theatrical releases uncut and “on demand” (so to speak), which was a complete mind-blower since none of that was even conceivable, much less possible, to the general public previously.

Yes, I had no expectation that they would magically improve the quality of old games. I just hope the new stuff is better. I saw a quote from Twellman that they asked Apple for more cameras and Apple is giving them whatever they want without push back. If that's the case I think things will improve. However installing new equipment at every stadium around the country is a big task and I don't expect it to be all done before Feb. 25th.

On Apple TV (the physical device you hook up to the TV):
Settings -> Apps -> TV -> Show Sports Scores -> Off

I so far haven't found equivalent settings for the TV app on MacOS.

If you’re watching on an iPhone or iPad: go to your device’s Settings, next scroll down and choose the Apple TV section, then scroll down and turn off the “Show Sports Scores” option.

    I hope that helped. :)
