And… Law & Order it is. I guess that’s the equivalent of NBC‘s test pattern. :p

No EPL season reviews, goals of the season, or any other EPL related content. At least not yet.

I’ve got many other things to do today so it doesn’t really affect me, but I just find their production decisions “interesting“.

Instead, USA Network aired Nascar practice and qualifying.

Damn, was just watching Forest v Fulham and the stream stopped dead in the 85th minute. I think I know why too: I was watching it 15 minutes behind live time. So I guess when the live stream is terminated it kicks you out whether you're finished or not.

Of course, replay won't be available right away either.

Yup I’ve had this happen quite a few times. Very very annoying when it does. It’s something I don’t know why they design their player to work that way.

    Reminder:

    This ends today!

Oddly enough, I don't think I entered the code, but the representative assured me I got the special price. It may be a bit confusing, because what I'm seeing (after payment) is the regular price.

Thanks for the reminder. It's a great deal, and I no longer do that thing where I stop my monthly plan for a few months in the summer.

But is there an easy way to keep your current login creds and just switch from monthly to annual, using this "oneyear" promo code? I'd rather not have to cancel my old account and create a new one... too much hassle on all the devices that have my creds stored on them.

Here's what my screen looks like on peacock.tv. Note that the "Change Plan" button is grayed out:

I tried to switch from annual to monthly so I could spread out payments, but I couldn't. I think an account is locked into a payment frequency.

The last time I paid for Peacock was the original promo when it first launched. I got a year of commercial-free for $50.

I can't remember if this is the same email address or not.

Hey NBC! Peacock is an OK streaming platform technically, though it could use some useful tweaks to make it really user-friendly. But something you could really use to fix is your production on Peacock, in particular the way you cut away from matches saying "Coverage concluded" the instant a match is done. Even if this is some contractual restriction, you could fix that, no?

Did they take a page from Fox Sports World and the way Max, Christian and whoever else would jump on over the UK-based announcer the second the match ended, instead of waiting for a natural conclusion from the PbP guy?

It's kind of a double-edged sword though. On the other end, ESPN, for e.g., often tacks-on a long (~hour) post-match show on the same stream as a match (often whatever is the last La Liga game on a Saturday or Sunday). Convenient if you are watching the match live, but not so great if you are waiting for the stream to end so that you can watch the replay on demand.

I've noticed the same with Paramount+ Champions League matches, where I'd have to wait until around 7:00p ET for the replay to become available.

Though I still agree with you because, if anything, they should be catering to people watching live (the majority).

Don't know who was on duty for the graphics during the TOT-LIV match today but I chuckled a bit when they came off the pitch at HT and the score was incorrect (no big spoiler but there were 2 goals scored not 1) and then again during the studio HT show when there was news about the Southampton manager but the huge graphic behind Rebecca spelled his name with an "I" on the end instead of an "L".

Edit: 60mins later, during GZ show, they still were using the giant HASSENHUTTI graphic.

    So...

I have USA and NBC linear (live) TV channels.
I have the $5 version of Peacock.

Do I really need the NBC Sports app? What good does it do? It seems NBC Gold is no longer a thing, amirite?

It seems like it's just another outlet for the same live channels and team/channel schedules I can get elsewhere.

Are there any good reasons why I shouldn't delete it as being redundant?

    Thanks in advance.

IIRC, they have an exclusive game(s) on the last day of the season.

Yes you might want to keep the NBC Sports app. For some reason NBC never seemed to be able to fully unify their streaming content.

So, from what I can tell, any game that airs on a proper TV channel (NBC, USA, CNBC) would only show up as streamable on NBC Sports app... at least when live.

Whereas any game that airs only on Peacock will only show up as streamable there. Peacock may show replays of a TV broadcast game after the fact, but from my experience never live.

There may be a few exceptions to this, but this is the general rule I've noticed.

So for me, I sometimes find myself streaming an NBC/USA game on my iPad in the kitchen or dining room, rather than watching it on one of my cable TV's. And for that I use the NBC Sports app.

p.s. The NBC Sports app may also have ancillary EPL content that Peacock doesn't have, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Seems like NBC has been able to attract more ex-players to today's Fan Fest than in the past.

Hmm... could that have anything to do with todays' locale... in January... Universal Orlando? ;)

Interesting that there's no NBC-hosted transfer day show today, like they used to do on NBCSN(/USA?). All they seem to be providing is Sky's Deadline Day show streaming on Peacock now.

Is this the first time NBC has given up doing it's own show or did they stop that for prior windows?

It seems killing off NBCSN was a really terrible idea.

I wonder if the honchos at NBC Universal or whoever owns them now (Comcast?) are having regrets.

Killing NBCSN was always a bad/sad idea from my point of view. But I have no reason to believe that NBC doesn’t still love the idea of shifting everybody over to Peacock, cutting back production costs, maximizing profits, etc.

I think Peacock was what pushed things over the edge for NBCSN. The costs wee probably worth what they got in ad revenue until it started to hamper another product.

NBCSN had decent ratings, but they struggled to negotiate higher subscriber fees from distributors.

USA Network has much higher fees, that's why they put big shows there.

Ending the free access is not surprising, but it also kind of is. I'd imagine every TV provider has some sort of "on demand" service. Over the last several years, I've noticed these on-demand selections get slimmer and slimmer.

I'd think the TV companies would prefer people to use their own apps/websites to get that on-demand content. As of last I looked, there's still some content via the "regular" apps and websites like "The NBC app" or the regular ABC app.

There's probably always going to be a way to get the recent episodes of mainstream shows for no special fees.

But also, Comcast has been incredibly greedy... probably moreso than any other provider. They raise rates and you'd think it wouldn't be that difficult to include access to their own customers. Heck, make it so you need Comcast internet *and* their TV service.

Or at least grandfather it in. "As long as you have this specific package, you're good. If you change to any other internet package, it goes away."
