Starting to get some leaks from @MLS Media Day pic.twitter.com/AhmPR1Wxkj— Jonah Henderson (@JonahNHenderson) January 10, 2023 Looks like the uniform could be Orange shirt (look near the jacket zipper), black shorts, orange socks. The black shorts are specific to this new uniform because the number and the adidas stripes are orange when they are silver on the away kit.

Not sure where to put this but Glenn did not get selected by Apple/MLS as an announcer for 2023 streaming package. Shame For those of you asking if I was selected for the @MLS /Apple tv commentary the answer is no.I have truly enjoyed calling MLS since it’s inception and have worked with amazing individuals. Looking forward to the future.— Soccer Matters with Glenn Davis (@soccermattersGD) January 23, 2023
It’s kind of surprising imo. They’ve made clear the intention is to have broadcast teams on site for every game you you’d need at least 14 announcers on your roster. I would have thought Glenn would easily be in that range of top PxP guys in the US but I guess not. I think he should be able to find some work especially with ESPN+ giving better college soccer coverage around Texas.
I suspect it wasn't all based on quality of work. Already a number of quality guys I'd probably say were top half announcers in MLS have been ousted. Plus they have a certain number of British accent guys to properly give an impression of quality on the world feeds under the theory that they are the best announcers in the world. For Glenn, I assume everything he works is on contractor/freelancer basis. Don't know how much say the Dynamo were paying vs. what he could get doing a game on the SEC Network or Longhorn Network. Those don't strike me as lucrative assignments but yes ESPN+ has a big volume of games. I recall a few years ago (under Canetti, so 5 years ago or so) that he was not contracted up until a few days before the first game, or the Dynamo didn't have a TV deal until then as well. Hopefully he can do the local radio feed if the Dynamo fund it.
Dynamo preseason 2023: Times are CT Feb. 1: Toluca v. Dynamo 11:00 am Feb. 4: Tlaxacala v. Dynamo @ Toluca, MEX 11:00 am Feb. 7: UNAM Pumas v. Dynamo 11:00 am Feb. 11: TBA v. Dynamo @ Ft. Lauderdale, FL Feb. 15: TBA v. Dynamo @ Ft. Lauderdale, FL Feb. 18: Dynamo v. FC Dallas 7:30 pm The games in Mexico are listed as closed-door scrimmages. We'll see what kind of updates we get. The first one is against Toluca who has a win and a tie to start the Liga MX season. They host Leon on Sunday and then, according to the league schedule, are at Atlas on February 1. No idea who the Dynamo will actually be playing against if that is case. Toluca is then scheduled to travel to Monterrey next Sunday. Tlaxacala FC is playing in the Liga de Expansion (2nd division). Their schedule shows only the Dynamo scrimmage on Saturday.
Once upon a time, he may have been considered top 14 pxp. There's been a big influx of soccer pxp people in the last 10 yrs now. He was basically fired from the 2019 Fox women's world cup broadcast mid-tournament. Was not included for the 2022 tournament. No longer used much by ESPN I don't think. He's slipped way down the list on pxp.
It sounds like the first opponent will be Club America instead of Toluca. We should see details soon. But I doubt if we get much information from the scrimmage either way.
Disagree. Fox only used 4 crews in 2022, left a lot of guys off the list. I've seen enough vapid MLS broadcasts from other teams to say Glenn is clear top half. He doesn't have a British accent however. Getting fired from the 2019 Womens World Cup is sort of a badge of honor, I know you claimed on reddit he was unprepared but who the hell in the world knows the 17th player on the Nigerian womens squad is?
I've heard most of those guys call games. Mark Followill will always be a favorite of mine. I know I'm gonna get killed because he calls FC Dallas games, but I grew up in Dallas and he was the Mavs PxP guy. He's really good. I don't care though because what I loved about MLS is what I love about NBA, Small Market College Sports, and MLB. The PxP/Color Guys are generally ex-players and invested in the team. One of my least favorite broadcasts is NFL, because it's the same dudes all the time, no matter what teams I'm watching. I think this is a fail by Apple TV, but I get why they're doing it. It's really a fail by MLS to sell it's rights to Apple TV.
That's only true for the local broadcasts though. Watch national broadcasts of the NBA, MLB, NHL and it's not local guys but rather the same circle of professional broadcasters. The big change here with MLS is no more local broadcasts. So, they become the same as the NFL, the only other major US league that has no local broadcasts. They also become the same as every top flight European league, by the way, where you don't have local team guys calling the games (I'm talking not just the US broadcast but also the broadcast overseas). You might be right that taking the money to go to Apple is a bad idea, but once that decision was made ditching all the local broadcast teams was the only reasonable way forward. Most of them are godawful anyway.
First of all, I’m a fan of Followill as well. I’m hoping he can be MLS full time sooner than later. It will be nice to hear him calling games without having to hear FCD promo reads. As for Davis. His ability is one thing but it’s his knowledge is something I’m surprised they cannot find more of a use for. His show airs in Houston and Austin, two key markets for the league. I read somewhere that they want the broadcast teams fairly regionally based. If that’s still true you would think Glenn would be pretty favorable. They’re going to do things the way they want though.
Thing.is, broadcasting for a local audience is very different from broadcasting for a national audience and old habits die hard. Apple knows this. If you were to hire Davis you could never let him broadcast a Dynamo game. Would be almost impossible to transition to calling the game in a neutral fashion rather than focusing on the Dynamo side. From there, the reason he got bounced by Fox was poor preparation, so why would you trust him to be prepared for games that weren't the Dynamo or Austin?
over half the play by play guys they hired are current local MLS announcers!! Your point is invalid on its face

MLS season pass on Apple has a lot of pretty good content already. That's one of the advantages with this deal, there's a real intent to produce a ton of non-match content.
