B&RU (RIP) has a link to a press release saying that Adrien Perez has signed with the Empire Strykers (Ontario, CA) in the MASL.
If they wanted to do this right, they'd give the teams 2 weeks to provide an ordered list of the Americans they most wanted to "discover" and afterward awarded discovery rights to those teams in allocation order. But I have no confidence in their ability to do it right.
Goff says we're scrimmaging the Galaxy today. Not sure if any details will leak out. Not sure it will tell us much of anything. But it's something... D.C. United has added a preseason match vs LA Galaxy on Tuesday in Carson. Closed to public and media. They'll play three 30-minute sessions. #dcu #mls— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 23, 2023
They dumped a bunch of players and haven't filled in any new signings. So I'm guessing it will be mostly Galaxy II...
presumably this picture shows our starting 11 today A moment of silence for Anton Walkes 🖤❤️#ForAnton🕊 https://t.co/T6sxrjk08h pic.twitter.com/wqnhCGFgqQ— D.C. United (@dcunited) January 24, 2023
I imagine so. Miller at GK. Ruan, Birnbaum, Akinmboni, and Jeahze in defense. Durkin, Canouse, Santos, and ??? (I thought Ku-Dipietro but I don't think that's the right number for him, unless he changed it this year) in midfield. Taxi and Benteke up top.
Speaking of numbers: New DC United jersey numbers:Jeahze 5Bono 24Klich 43Miller 1Samaké 72Santos 7Ruan 2Williams 3— Ryan Keefer (@reefa_k) January 24, 2023
That was Ku-Dipietro in that first picture after all. Benteke rises to win the header 💥Ted puts it past the keeper 🙌@chrisbenteke 🤝 @tkudipietro #DCU || #VamosUnited pic.twitter.com/ScKoix9jdT— D.C. United (@dcunited) January 24, 2023
A goal in his first competitive minutes ✅Not bad, Pedro 👏 pic.twitter.com/QtjEvHouX1— D.C. United (@dcunited) January 24, 2023
Video of LA's 3 goals in this thread: That’s a Preseason Dub ✨Check out the first goal of the match by @RiquiPuig 👀 pic.twitter.com/vmCEAekwGj— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) January 25, 2023
Nice to see we are picking up where we left off. However, it is like the first real match so I'm gonna ignore it and say, we will get better.
For those that inflate the quality of play in MLS the counter argument is Riqui Puig - talented youth player, got minutes on the first team and it was obvious he wasn't a LaLiga player. He can boss an MLS midfield like it is a video game.
2-3 in the first preseason match of the year is nothing to get worried about... If Taxi and Benteke can regularly produce assists, that's probably something worth looking forward to.
He’s most definitely a La Liga player. Perhaps not Barca, but he can easily fit into a number of teams in Spain.
Price wise, they could almost certainly get more for him outside of La Liga and maybe all of Europe with the US being where they could 7M Euro for him. I feel like I saw a 20M Euro valuation somewhere. Almost half the La Liga clubs spent less than 15M Euro last year. Half the Bundisliga and Ligue 1 along with a quarter of Serie A teams are similarly restricted in their spending. 7M is probably a lot of money for a fringe starter or less than finished product at a club that's only spending ~$15M a year on incoming transfers.
Scouting fail, once again! This FO disgusts me. How much digging does it require to find out he's had two knee replacements?
In (slightly) more serious news. According to the Guardian, Dyche is in at Everton on a 2 1/2 year deal. Owner wanted Bielsa, but he refused to take over in midseason. Also in an off-topic tidbit, I was listening to the latest Allocation Disorder discussion of the USMNT tire fire and I learned that Claudio Reyna also had complained to the U-17 coach back in the day that Gio wasn't getting enough playing time.
