Nobody expects sports to eradicate racism in a culture. What we do expect is for sporting bodies and peoples of power to demonstrate their own values through action by not tolerating racism in their own game. The problem is sports is part of that culture itself so instead of taking a stand against it, they actively incite and provoke it through various means. The problem is not some fringe outsiders, rather within the game they are racist themselves.
We just need to stop playing Kroos with Modric; both can't be on the pitch at the same time, and for the love of God, Kroos isn't a DM....
Sports has in many cases lead with respect to changing culture; Jesse Owens, Jackie Robinson, I could go on, but black athletes have had major role in the progression of America's acceptance of black people. I can't speak for Europe.
This is why we expose our daughter to dehumanization of other groups like Jews, Muslims, Hispanics, the poor, to name a few. There are plenty of examples in the US of stigmatized groups and we want her to know it isn't ok and it isn't their problem, it's our problem.
If US sports teams started giving stadium bans for racism..... Sports team: ***scores goal/touchdown/etc.*** Fan: "That's my **********" Sports team: "You're banned. That kind of language won't be tolerated around here." Fan: ***Sues sports team for discrimination Edit: big soccer won't even let me post the street slang differently spelled version of the "n word". ***Waits for ban****
Well, the way some people behave, it certainly feels like some people do expect that, as if you could do that with a snap of fingers. I guess you boycotted the World Cup, considering everything FIFA and Qatar stood for. Look, we will NEVER get rid of assholes. NEVER. Unless you want to apply brute force, but then that would PoLiCe bRuH-tAliTy OMG SO MUCH OPPRESSION HE WAS A GOOD KID. Organizations will keep doing what they've always done: PRETENDING. Rainbow flag, kneeling, all the useless stuff. They will never address the problem in a way that will solve the problem. They will just keep fooling people, and I hope you are not one of them.
It has literally never been eradicated in any culture in the world. As you've been doing throughout your post, you're just trying to demean people. This is an attempt to demean once again. I guess we all have to boycott every brand, every product, every government for which we are associated with because they all have blood on their hands. Here you're just regurgitating what i said in a more abrasive way. I said that they don't take meaningful action, rather incite racism because they are themselves racist. Oh but you're not fooled right? One of the enlightened trying to degrade others on a forum. You really need to get beyond that stuff.
Well, yeah... Look, I know you want a better world, just like I do. I'm just more realistic and pragmatic. The whole "people in charge must take a stand" is so naive, so regurgitated to death, so utopic, so childish, I get angry just by reading it. I'm sorry for Vinicius. No human being should go through that (even though he is a millionaire and will quickly forget that when he is sharing a hot tub with four supermodels. REAL SUFFERING is not shown on TV or the internet.) But yeah, the people involved in that should rot in jail, or worse. They add nothing to this planet while consuming our resources.
Mendy is just not there to help. To break down that wing he needs to be moretechnically proficient and creative. He's usually not providing overlaps, or being a meaningful outlet. He might get the ball, pass backward, take too many touches, lose it etc.
The thing with Vini is a step before becoming violent to be honest. I really hope he can rest at some point, everything surrounding him has become otherworldly toxic
I'm so happy for Ceballos. I've said it before; he's a great option to recycle and drive up the field. He's also the only mid we have left that's got the fighter mentality now thag Casemiro is gone. We need to ride his form. Cama was absolutely fantastic. I've never thought he was particularly great at DM but he dominated today but I think the difference is you can tell he took himself down half a gear. He's no longer doing everything at 120% which has lead him to accumulate yellow cards and also put himself out of position. I know some of you don't want him at LB but I half to say, he has all of the important attributes to play there. His future is in the midfield but at this point it doesn't matter where he plays. Vini, Benz and Valverde were very bad today, as usual. Benz needs to drop deep less and play closer to the box because at least he's scoring again. Valverde looks timid out there. Vini is distracted clearly. Racism and Neo Nazis aside, everyone has gotten into his head. He's of two minds right now. Militao and Nacho were excellent as well. Rodrygo doing what he does best, change the game. Mendy again out of position leading to the goal. He's distracted as well. We are alive.
Do you? I think it is more accurate to say you are very pragmatic, do not believe things are worth saving or fighting for so you're fine with letting it all burn. You main issue is with those who have money whom you feel deserve to suffer for their success. Perfect example here. I get that you feel that if someone has success they don't deserve mercy or understanding... but I disagree with that notion.
Agree with most points, but Benz dropping deep is extremely helpful to the fluidity of the play. He gets stuck up front, the ball will not progress well in the final third and he will be marked out the game.
🚨 Atletico Madrid has released an official statement complaining about the fact Dani Ceballos didn't get a red card yesterday.— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) January 27, 2023
I just hope he saw the Rodrygo goal, so he knows the kinda phenoms he could've been playing with for the next decade. Instead he's gonna spend his prime years playing for Qataris. As long as Florentino is president, he will never play for Madrid. He burned us and our presi thrice already. To go back for him a fourth time is unlikely.
I think he knows the talent level he could have been with considering he wanted both Camavinga and Tchouameni to come to Madrid and he raves about Benzema and Vinicius. I think for him (his mom) she he saw the opportunity to make a crap ton of money and she he thought "We can have our cake and eat it too!". In his opinion he is so good we will come back and pay some crazy amount when he is ready to come... on his terms. The reality however is Florentino would still sign him but we can't because we can't possibly afford what he would cost in transfer and wages.
Youre wrong. I said nobody deserves to go through that. But Vini will be fine. Hes more privileged than us all.
Ultras Sur outside the Bernabeu before the Atleti match. Saf to say players that join Real Madrid have some balls to ignore all this nonsense. What a load of trash.
There's a reason this group is banned from the Santiago Bernabeu. Atletico even refuses to acknowledge they have a problem and routinely incite negative behavior. Nobody said racism is a one party issue. But Atletico is far higher on the racist spectrum these days than Real Madrid is. What really baffles me and probably a few here is why you're trying to equate Atletico's known racist behavior with Real Madrid's. Do two wrongs make a right? There are despicable people in every club. What matters is how the institution conducts itself. Real Madrid instantly defended Vini and condemned the behavior. Atletico was slow to even acknowledge that it happens and basically did nothing actionable. Don't try to make this seem like their racism is any less because Ultras Sur, a known racist faction that is banned from our stadium, exists. This is no better than the culers who constantly call Real Madrid "Franco's football club" when it is from decades ago, and Real has actively tried to distance itself from that.
From the person that sent me that (he was at the Madrid - Atleti match as he's writing for german publications), yes. People think just because they had their tickets removed they stopped existing. The club worried about the banners and the pretty blatant fascist imagery, mostly. Madrid hasn't voted anything else but conservative/right until i got tired of going back the election results ca. 30 years ago. I chuckle when people make it out to be an Atletico problem, when it's a problem across the entire country. Until that is considered, not much is changing.
I don’t love in Madrid So I’m trying to understand the dynamics Atletico is more the team from the “hoods” no? The team of the people from el barrio Real more of the middle class no? Just going by that alone, it racism exists heavily in Madrid, you are more likely to get more bulgar and direct tones from Atletico fans. also, as a club, we are much better at condemning it and trying to block it from our image
