If United keep trending this way and secure a CL spot next season I wouldn't rule them out as a possible destination for Bellingham.
Because theyre young and we don't have extra oil money so its a bet. Not a fan of Chiesa personally but "worldclass players" gets really subjective after Mbappe and Haaland and we are not getting them. So I'm not at all against signing young players (up to 23 years) in the 50 million range who are "second tier" and develop them into first tier, or (worst case scenario) sell them without much loss if the dont quite pan out. Talking about guys like Diaby, Kudus, Kolo Muani, Porro, Doku, Gouiri, Sancho etc. These I like more than Chiesa but I'd say he also belongs in the category.
I don't get it. I understand that Madrid doesn't have unlimited pockets, but also has among the highest revenues of all football clubs. Shouldn't the club be able to afford a 100m-120m signing each summer? (Used to be right below 100m because of inflation). And there are basically just 2-3 clubs who could outbid Madrid. Because I'm kinda getting the impression that Madrid has fallen off spending power way more than that.
Spend that 100-120 M on which player? 2-3 clubs can outbid RM and PSG and City did for Haaland and Mbappe who were the only legit stars on the market. Everyone else who cost 100 M+ recently have been busts because they are overpriced non-superstars. Barca nearly went bankrupt wasting that kind of money on Coutinho, Griezmann etc. 100 M+ pricetag doesn't mean quality signings. Yea, it doesn't look like we are willing to have more 100 M busts like Hazard often. And you can also infer we don't have money like that to sign/waste on faux "stars". After Neymar and Mbappe in 2017, 100 ME+ signings have been Hazard, Dembele, Coutinho, Griezmann, Felix, Lukaku. Says it all about the market. PL clubs like Spurs have held onto the likes of Kane and Son for long. Before, they'd leave after 4-5 years like Bale, Modric, Carrick etc did. Market has changed and hence RM spent significant amount on Brazilian teenagers like Vini, Rodrygo, Reinier, Endrick.
We would be willing to spend 100 ME+ on Bellingham btw but player has a ton of options to choose from. City, Pool, Utd, Chelsea from PL itself could afford those kind of fees. Forgot to mention recent 100 ME signing Antony who wasn't even putting up good numbers in Dutch League. [emoji23]
🚨🎖| No news about Jude Bellingham. Jurgen Klopp is obsessed with him, he's calling every day to know about his signing. But the Bellingham's race is still very open. We have to wait. @FabrizioRomano— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) January 24, 2023
I wasn't talking about other clubs spending 100m on players. I don't care about them. I was talking about Madrid's reluctance to spend 100m on players the club needs. Which last time Madrid did this was on Tchou who isnt a bust, but was probably only signed because of the failed Mbappayed one. I'm not against the club signing young players for the future, it's just as if the club has lost more of it's buying mojo than it should have. It's kinda hard for me to explain tho.
Point out the players that are worth it. Mote often than not those players have turned out to be busts.
What good is revenue is it doesnt generate profit? This is a hyper expensive team to keep, including all that other ridiculous expenditure on basketball, women's sports, general costs to keep the club running. Not going to go back all those pages but I like Chiesa. Star players are good, but getting a potentially cheeky deal on an experienced player is value as well.
Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Chiesa, Fran Garcia - around 225-240 million, I think this would be a really good transfer window if we pull this off...too much of time at hand, hence these kinda conjectures
That's why I couldn't care less what those other teams are rating as a 100m signing. Specially the overpriced EPL signings. What my team rated as worth 100m recently was Hazard, Tchouameni, Mbappe, possibly Bellingham. And pretty close to that amount was CR7 and Bale. And I don't see many busts and Madrid certainly wouldn't value Grealish and Lukaku as worth that. My point is, I'm with the team on what their valuation is rather than other teams.
That's why I was predicting the team would be like an efficient "Bayern Munich" in a couple of years. Its still a pretty good team but not as star studded/ Hollywood as Madrid-Perez teams usually are.
So why are you coming up with the conclusion that management can't attract 100 mil players anymore? Mbappe is way over that, rumors were that management were willing to go up to 200 for the guy before his renewal. He chose the money. You said Tchoumani was a fluke move. Hazard is exactly the reason management is not going to throw money at any option. Bellingham is being pursued, whether he decides to come or chooses another project is up to him. I don't get the criticism again. They are doing exactly as you wish. What relectuance are you talking about?
Good point, it was widely reported, by a whole array of reputable outlets, that we would have gone up 200m Euros for Mbappe. I don't think it's about the club not having the funds or willingness to spend, it's about signing players that are 100m+ that will "move the dial" for us, in terms of performance.
1) COVID hit everyone hard for a year. 2) Money was going toward stadium for a while. 3) Tchou for 100M, Hazard for 100M, and offered 200M for Mbappe. Militao+Mendy+Rodrygo was almost 150M. Clearly we have been more prudent in recent years, but Flo has still thrown around some cash.
First of all, when did I say Madrid cannot attract 100mil players any more? Then I went out and pointed the 100 mil rated signings which were mostly good signings which you conveniently glossed over. I never said Tchou was a fluke move, I said he was most likely signed because Mbappe's failed move. He was a backup plan. I need you to calm down because you seem upset and all emotional. You are putting words into my mouth.

I agree with you for Kane and Jude, but instead of Chiesa I would rather see Alphonso Davies..I all three should be avaible for around 240 milion...lets not forget we still have rights on Kubo,Miguel,Fran which can be used for rotational players
We cannot have a squad of just "star" players it doesn't work, we have come close to trying that already, we need quality hard workers as well, there must be a balance, this isn't a video game, We've never had a team/squad of just "stars", the galacticos was the closest we came to that and that didn't quite pan out the way people thought it would, Even Flo figured that out, we've always had a sprinkling of stars here and there amongst some very good players, that's the reality, the idea that you need the best player in every position to win titles is clearly a myth. Finally i'm not sure i would label Harry Kane a "star"
