I’ve mentioned a few times getting Pineda on the field in a three CB formation. He would be able to step into the middle while Gaston moves forward to help the attack. I think Sekulic would have been a more versatile outside player than Torres, Mueller or the new defensive minded RB we signed, but those outside players are a bit closer to the attack than in our 4-2-3-1.
Duran Transfer Finalized- Now What? Aston Villa has just now announced that they have completed the transfer for Duran. Details matched what we previously heard. It is likely that there were some EPL or MLS approvals necessary before the deal was “final”. Is it possible that Fire have a new acquisition all lined up and are only waiting for this final approval process to announce it? Possible- but I am not holding my breath waiting for it.
“Chicago Fire FC have completed the signing of Argentinian forward Luis Vázquez from Boca Juniors for $5.5m. The 21 year old forward will travel to Chicago to complete a medical in the coming days.” https://twitter.com/casualswindy/status/1617665824231411712?s=46&t=bugdWA5Gwkhsr5NezvhWQg
We have room for 3 or 4, 1 DP, 1/2TAM, 1 U22. Would make sense to use the DP & U22 spots for strikers... But yea, that doesn't seem like reliable intel... 1617700795859992577 is not a valid tweet id
His transfermarkt value is 4-5 million €, so we wouldn't be over paying that much He does not seem to have scored that many goals in his career as a striker. Perfect for the Fire. https://www.transfermarkt.us/luis-vazquez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/844516

Take it to the optimism thread, I know.
some hits and misses on identifying young talent but happy with JJD and Fede as young guys out of South America not the foggiest idea how these things go; is there someone on staff that focuses on scouting South America?
yeah, showing my ignorance here on MLS scouting departments meant more is there a lead-SA guy/gal that deserves recognition for their good hit rate
Is it me, or does Gaston look leaner and "more buff"??? Nuestra mañana en una foto 🌴¡Seguimos con todo en la pretemporada! pic.twitter.com/Csa963ynX2— Chicago Fire FC (@VamosFire) January 24, 2023 It would be great if he comes in fit and hungry...it's time to settle the debate on him.
Well, of course he's "hungry," he took a significant cut in pay when he signed the new contract, dropping from a DP. Probably can't afford food, the poor fellow. [emoji1787] But, yes, I would be thrilled to see some positive work from him. He should be controlling the play on the field.
You say that like you didn’t see it last year… He wasn’t flashy but he had the highest player rating (6.97) on the team… His CDM play was solid… we just need him to add a few G&A to his stats.
