What are you talking about? You combined 2 posts, 1 which I made a week or two ago. And it was true then. He was still being used very situational and sparingly. He played decent in the Cup game and the last bench appearance. So he's getting a chance now. I said congrats/good luck to him.

BTW, I never said he wouldn't ever get a start. And I do think you were still overreacting to him getting Cup minutes and what that meant. That's where you get a chance to earn more p.t. in league. But I didn't think they'd still trust him yet. They were still using him situationally, just moderately more than they had. This is the first time they took the leash off, to try him in a broader sense - start or significant bench appearance regardless of game situation.

You're making the case for me. You say investment matters. They invested 2m. That's a small amount for them. It means you get less trust and leeway coming in and during. He's gained some more trust, which can vacillate, as I'm sure you know.

He looks strong. If he and Gio were part of a 5 man rotation in Qatar we would have made it at least to the quarters.

There is most definitely a difference of opinion on how we could have approached the games and using the pool that’s for sure.

Assist on the only goal so far:

Goal! Celta Vigo 1, Athletic Club 0. Iago Aspas (Celta Vigo) left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Luca de la Torre.

Great game for Luca! 85 minutes at home. Has he turned the corner?

He was quiet in first half but more due to ineffective ball movement to the wings in the first half. Celta did much better in the second half, but found Luca continued to put himself in great positions only for his teammates to make poor decisions with their passes. The assist was a nice flick to unlock the D in the middle of the pitch. He came up with some type of injury at the end, which was the only reason he was subbed. Hope it’s minor, as he has momentum

Nice touch and clever pass. Hopefully the injury is just a knock.

Announcer called it a simple ball over the top. I thought it was a heads up play with nice touch/shape on it. Obviously not the most gifted athletic player but he has good vision and technical skills. Really wish he had gone near post on that shot early in the first or at least had put his boot thru it. GK with a quality save. May have gotten past some other GKs. Would have been nice to get a native La Liga goal but I will take the assist. It was quite nice.

Starts again. Good to see his injury wasn’t as bad as initially feared.

Yeah, it seemed pretty 'tactical' even in real time. I mean, he was obviously legitimately dinged and wanted out, but the whole shifty look side to side and then "Oh, I'm gonna sit down on the field now!" seemed like a veteran time-wasting move.

Clearly he's learned the Spanish game.

Fantastic assist with the outside of his foot. Similar to his assist last week.

We have lots of good 8s. We should use them to improve our central attack. We don’t need to always play the same two people.

It was a wild game, good win for Celta and of course excellent assist by LDLT. Shades of last week with the little lob over the backline from similar spot on pitch. Quick two touch with outside of foot.

LDLT loves that middle third of the pitch. He's what I call a centre line midfielder. He's also played perspicuously as a lateral mid because it gives him time and the right spatial perspective to pick out the best aciton around that middle third area.

yes, definitely but this is YA so I will not expatiate in this forum. Suffice to say, balance is crucial. Different balances are possible but the first objective should be balance, not "best xi players" or "athleticism".

This recent run of form is better than he ever played in the Eredivisie. I think it's becasue he stopped playing as more of an up and down the field 'runner' and more of a positional guy who is thinking two and three plays ahead.

What a fun game to watch. So many world-class goal scoring plays... LDLT's assist being a big part of one of them. I loved when the announcer called LDLT's pass "Hollywood Football". Very cool. LDLT is super classy w/ his passing. He seems well suited for La Liga and the way Celta play in general. It is a bummer he isn't just a bit faster as I think that may limit his ceiling but I think he could be very good for club and country.
