You couldn't be more wrong. You also have to gauge upside vs current form. I would rather play a young Vitinha who plays for PSG because he has more of an upside and he also plays in a league were the competition is greater.

I also want a player who gives everything for the National Team and Rafa has already turned his back away from Portugal.

Anyone think Galeno from Porto might get a call up? He's having a similar goal output that Luiz Diaz had at Porto. We need more wingers.

Agreed. We lack pace, other than Leao we are pretty slow. We could have used him against Morocco for example.

Thank you for saying this ... We definitely need more speed.

    Quaresma
    Ronaldo
    Nani

Portugal have always relied on wingers to create... Now who's our top winger! lol!

I guess in last few years the width has come from our full backs. If Mendes/Cancelo/Dalot have freedom to attack they can act like wingers. But it would be nice to have some traditional wingers too.

What ever happened to Pedro Neto?

He is with the other 11 Portuguese who play for the lowly wolves.

    He wont amount to much.

    Galeno is Brazilian.

Again with this... what does it matter if hes Brazilian? If he has a Portuguese passport... more and more brazilians come to Portugal, they speak the language. Pepe and Deco, 2 of the best players in our history, have Brazilian roots.

France does the same exact thing.

Why do we need Galeno when we had Leão that is better and it wasn't used? And we have Podence who even wasn't called up. Galeno isn't better than Leão in the first place.

i understand and also agree with your point on rafa declining to join the NT during the worldcup, although we don't know the reasoning behind it, it definitely isn't a good look but i have to strongly disagree with you in terms of "upside." the fact is Portugal is extremely weak on the right flank and our current team aside from leao has zero pace rafa can play on the right, is creative and very, very fast he's exactly what we are missing although i completely agree in regards to vitnhha the fact is we are stacked at that position and unfortunately i have a feeling vitinha is going to suffer the same fate as bernardo silva. An extremely talented offensive creative player that is now playing cdm for a team that spends trillions every transfer window. bernardo was playing on the right for us the year we won nations league and he was dominating.... and now he didn't even get one shot on target the entire world cup. vitinha was at porto lighting it up and now he's on psg passing the ball backwards. i also have to disagree in regards to the french league being more "competitive" look at what benfica was able to do vs a billion dollar squad.... TWICE. if benfica porto or sporting were in the french league i think they would occupy the 2nd,3rd 4-5th spot but whatever thats neither here or there, they are both shit leagues

Podence? Inconsistent at best. Doesn't even start for Wolves. We need more wingers than Leao

He has been starting all the League matches under Lopetegui and has been ok, 5 goals scored in the Premier League. And no, we don't need Galeno for nothing, he isn't good enough to start for us.

I would say Otávio and Podence can do that role. But doesn't matter what I think, it's how Martinez wants us to play.

Not expecting a classic 433 with 2 wingers as we played 10 or 20 years ago, Portugal doesn't produce that much that type of player anymore, at least with the same quality.

Our strength is in our midfielders and second forwards, now with Ramos hopefully strikers too.

Sure he can call Galeno in the future, if Jota recovers is another type of option, for now it's only speculation.

This is laughable since every single midfielder fails when transferred to Spain and statistically speaking we can never control the ball against any of the top teams....

...we pad our stats and egos against Estonia and blame the coach and refs against the top clubs.

    No. Different Situations....

Pepe was called for Brazil and choose Portugal because his wife was Portuguese and he said he loved Portugal.
Deco chose Portugal because he wasn't going to start ahead of Ronaldinho even though he was second in the Ballon D'or.

The players you are mentioning will never play for Brazil and have never even been called to the Brazilian Youth teams.

So having them play for Portugal is an example that its time we blame the players for our poor performance and stop blaming refs and coaches.

Believe what you want to believe but I don't know how Brazilian players who aren't good enough to play for Brazil are going to make Portugal the best team in the world.

If that's the case why are we not scouting the top u18 Brazilian players and bringing them to Portugal and convincing them play for Portugal while they are young. Why are we waiting to bring them on when they are 24 and don't have a place in Brazil.

Portugal are bottom feeders to you? Let's reserve judgement once Romar fields this young team... I'm actually excited and optimistic.

    I have said it before.

Without Ronaldo and the Brazilian players in the past years (Pepe and Deco) we are as good as Sweden, Denmark, Ect.... The results prove because we struggled to beat those teams even with those three players.

You guys want to blame coaches and referees and I am trying to be only one not drinking when posting.

The idea that we are Brazil, Argentina, France ect...needs to stop. It needs to stop with our players too. They walk on the pitch expecting to win and shocked when they lose. They get transferred to major clubs and whine when they aren't starting instead of buckling down and earning a spot.

No one is going to drop down a red carpet because you are Portuguese.

I think Chico who’s been starting for Ajax lately is able to play that role well. Seems as though Carlos Borges will leave Man City this January, he’s not getting any first team opportunities despite his out of this world performances for the reserve team. He’s another pacy winger who could explode onto the scene

Lol, every porkchop here thinks our NT sucks ass.
I had a feeling we were going to lose 1-0 to Morocco after the blowout against the Swiss.

i am. that's right..... i said it. if you don't think your the best you'll never be the best. that's the issue i guarantee you our squad thinks like antiwhateverthatguysnameis and that's exactly why we panic and play like shit when we go down 1-0 against teams like morroco. i said it before and ill say it again..... aside from France or brazil. ON PAPER we have the best team.... maybe spains is better. do we play like it? no.... its up to roberto to get these guys playing to the level that they can.
