I got tired looking for the business thread so I'll put this here ....

Liverpool have achieved a 'significant rise' in the value of their main sponsorship deal after current front-of-shirt sponsor Standard Chartered extended its agreement with the club by a further four years.

The financial services company has been Liverpool's main sponsor since first signing up in 2010 and the value of the deal has grown significantly since with the most recent renewal in 2018 worth around £40m per year to the club..

The current deal was set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 campaign and, while Liverpool had numerous discussions with other firms from a variety of industries, they and Standard Chartered, who had an option to extend the partnership, have committed to a further four years that will take the total length of the deal to 17 seasons, up until 2026-27.

There has been no official value placed upon what the new agreement is worth but the ECHO understands that, having had conversations with other prospective sponsors in a bid to find the current strength of the market and where the value of their sponsorship should lie in comparison to rivals at home and abroad, the Reds have received a major uplift to achieve their goal of ensuring that they are on par with the very biggest clubs.

I like the continuity of sponsorship we've had. Better than having some flash in the pan crypto company on the shirt for 18 months before it files for adminstration

There are a few reasons to dislike FSG and their stewardship of the club, but you have to look very hard for them and even then take rather uncharitable and biased perspectives to get there. Missteps, here and there, but largely a success.

Now here’s a strange story that speaks volumes, in my opinion, about the aspirations and direction of the club under FSG. Basically FSG have recognized that the success rate of young players brought into the club is minuscule. No surprise there, always has been, is the same across all major leagues and clubs in Europe. Signed at 6, make the grade, progress through the ranks only to be told at 16-17-18, thanks, but you’re not for us, we wish you well in future endeavors. It is very cutthroat, more or less without sympathy or pity and very harsh on young kids who have only ever known football, training and results.

But Liverpool have developed this program to transition their football “failures” into jobs in IT and cyber security. It’s about as far away from the center circle as you can get. I’m not sure there’s another club that’s doing anything even remotely similar. It’s really a win-win as it helps those who have not made the footballing grade and have few other useful employable skills and it’s excellent PR for the club even if they’ve not sought any.

The other thing that makes this so innovative is the thinking behind it. Football clubs make their money from football related activities (tv money, merchandise, sponsorship, tickets, transfers etc.) with some occasional extra curriculars such as renting out the stadium for concerts and suites for weddings etc. But that’s it. This venture is completely unrelated to football and may in time become a very useful profit center as well as an excellent vehicle for Liverpool in the Community.

As any student of business will tell you, diversification is the key to success. It could be that, in time, it becomes a rip roaring success that benefits all concerned. To use a dreadful business metaphor, some excellent outside the box thinking that you’d never expect from a football club that could yet become an industry standard.

Plus, if a couple of those young, very motivated, individuals turn out to be really good at data analysis, etc. you’ve got a built-in set of people to recruit into non-playing positions at the club (who probably also have a good sense of the game). This used to be how businesses in the US identified management talent before everyone had to have an MBA from an ivy league school that is heavily bias towards managing investment banks on Wall Street…

Finishing first saw City earn a UK merit payment - which is divided according to final league position - of nearly £34m as well as a further £7m internationally.

However, their facility fees - paid out every time a Premier League club appears in a live televised game - amounted to nearly £1m fewer than Jurgen Klopp's men, though their UK merit payment was nearly £2m higher than the Reds.

    That sucks.

Coca-Cola is a horrible company that steals water to make products with no redeeming value whatsoever.

Probably not in any official context. Just something else to sell. Lebron has done this before with "Liverpool" themed shoes.
