If TESLA goes bankrupt in the 2010's, then the EU would have a harder time phasing out ICE vehicles.

Elon does deserve credit for that.

No, our hammered dulcimer guy was really good and became a minor star in the string band world. The guy I'm talking about was just a drunk who wanted to be Joni Mitchell and looked like Poppin Fresh.

I caught that on Hulu a few months ago. They went after a reporter who basically asked how they made their money. But the most egregious for me was the phone calls of the brokers manipulating the electricity in California. The long and short of it was they were artificially creating blackouts in their early aughts and, based on the conversations, thought it was hilarious

Well, this is big news.. Almost 2 years ago, USPS announced they were replacing their very, very old delivery vehicles with a new vehicle produced by Osh-Kosh. The vehicle looks very goofy, but it came in an electric and gas powered version. Initially, only a handful of the vehicles were going to be electric (I can't find exact number, but it was something in the 10k-20k out of 90k total). This number was later bumped up to 35k earlier this year. Well, today it was announced that the EV number will be increased to 66k, with plans for the entire fleet to be battery powered.

    https://www.theverge.com/2022/12/20...ric-delivery-trucks-biden-infrastructure-2026

The article also mentions that FedEx has order 2,500 EVs to start replacing their fleet of delivery vehicles and Amazon has an order of 100k from Rivian. UPS is also slowly replacing their fleet with EV and I wouldn't be surprised if we see most local delivery vehicles (not just packages, but all delivery vehicles too) going EV in the near future. The savings from going EV over gas is huge, even if you account for the larger upfront cost.

I'd think their savings on maintenance would be substantial also.

If they could make the post offices solar powered they wouldn't even have to pay for fuel anymore...

Just getting new vehicles will help a lot with that. But yeah, the reduced maintenance required on EVs is another level of savings even if the alternate is a new ICE>

While it would offset some, I doubt they'd be able to offset a majority of the electrical use of EVs with solar panels.

How is the charger network up there? The fam and I were looking at heading up to Vancouver for a trip, but the chargers seemed to be mostly 50w or lower.

In general, there are bucket loads of EV chargers in BC because we have such a high uptake (about 18% of new sales are now EV).

However, you're right in that most of the chargers in the more urban settings are 50KW. I think much of that is a factor of how early we jumped on things here in the province. It does improve a bit on the main highways between cities and towns. You will find more 100KW and up chargers in those locales. So, I guess it really depends on where exactly you're visiting. Once get outside of either Southern Vancouver Island or the Lower Mainland the charging infrastructure is far more patchy.

Overall, the vast majority of folks here charge at home as our BC Hydro home rates are quite reasonable I think (8 - 14 cents per KWH). Public chargers are much more expensive.

Sadly, EA (our version of EA) isn't very prevalent yet. Only a few stations in BC and all located on the #1 highway at stopover type towns between Vancouver and Calgary.

Other bigger companies include BC Hydro, PetroCan, Flo (mostly 50KW) and Chargepoint (mostly 50KW).

Loads of Tesla Destination chargers if you bring an adapter.

Personally, I rarely ever see myself charging away from my home as I can get almost anywhere of value on the Island and back on a single charge. And, even to Vancouver and back. It's only if I do multi day trips or head to Kelowna when I expect to use public DC chargers.

The Tesla adapter for my Kia EV6 arrived in the mail today.
We are heading on a road trip on Monday and our destination only has a (very slow) Tesla charging station.

Note, currently the Tesla adapters can only handle up to 50kw chargers, not the Tesla "super" chargers. Damn.

I believe the US Postal Service is making a percentage of their fleet EV -- not sure of the number, although I do know it was not a big enough number to placate the pro-EV members of Congress.

almost 70% isn’t enough? I’m also not sure on the range for the Oshkosh vehicles. If it is a short range, it may not be good for the more rural routes.
