People think he's going to bring Ronaldo back but all he said is that he is going to sit down and talk with every player that was on the team in Qatar and Ronaldo is on that list. I think any coach that we brought in would say that out of respect to Ronaldo. What did people expect him to say?

He never said he was going to bring him back or start him.

There is no way Ronaldo will be starting on his team. If he is, then there is something seriously wrong and i will be the first to admit that. (FPF pulling the strings)

I think Ronaldo has moved on. He thanked Portugal and the Fans already.

He hasn't mentioned the coach or Santos in any of his posts.

Yes he hasn't officially retired but I don't think he has any interest in being a sub or playing for a team that can't compete.

After all the news articles about the fans believing that Portugal is better without him probably hit to close to home because he has done everything for this country.

If we fail to win in the next four games there might be a chance he comes back to save Portugal again. Its a great story but doubtful because yes he may save us against Iceland ect. But he can't save us against France or Germany.

Toti the wolves centre back is he Portuguese? Watching him right now playing in a three at the back for them, noticed he been getting regular games lately for them and been impressive in a few games

Tote António Gomes, known as Toti, is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Born in Guinea-Bissau, he has played for the Portugal U20 national team

He is a good player and young but one step below our current group.

Sad what has become of Guedes, Semedo and Neves.

Why would he? He isn't part of the team anymore. Now all that will be decided is did he do enough to light a fire for younger Portuguese players to thrive. Or will we be spending the next 10-20 years talking about how Portugal never built the supporting cast around one of the greatest players ever to play and what a waste.

Will Henry continue to be part of Roberto’s staff?

Who will be the Portuguese vet that joins him on the staff? Deco? Figo?

Deco is a player agent and has his own company. Figo is a businessman. Maybe Pepe retires and becomes his assistant

No. He already said he wants a former Portugal international player as part of his staff. Tiago Mendes would be a good name for me.

Mourinho’s comments seem like a subtle indirect dig at Martinez if you really think about it. He Brags about being Gomes ‘only choice’?

I am probably right because I know how Mou thinks. He can’t outsmart me.

thanks for refusing us, Mou. Because now you are going to have to stand by and watch Roberto dominate with the nation you refused yet again.

Welp finally able get on after such a crazy week for me but this news about Portugal hiring Martinez has me pretty pissed. I dont think he is better than Santos... He is a hasn't done a damn thing as a football manager and he was subpar as an analyst for ESPN. His style has always seemed pragmatic like Santos. So why the f*** did the F.P.F. hire him and not anybody else???? IMHO I think this team will get knocked out of the group stage of the next Euro if they even make it that far with him as the manager. I am all doom and gloom at the moment so I apologize. I hope Martinez can prove me wrong.

Martinez will prove you wrong. He is better than Santos.

And winning the FA Cup with Wigan and being 6th placed with Everton is still better than losing a Portuguese League against Sporting having Jardel, Drulovic and Capucho as your front 3.

Yes I admit, I am a Martinez kind of guy. My hatred for Santos was so big that he made me turn into Anti Santos. The truly Special One.

Speaking seriously, I just want us to play better on a more consistent way, qualify easily for the Euros on our group being first placed (something we failed for 2021 and 2022) and to qualify in our group stage in the next Euros playing well and hopefully having a manager who selects the best players for the 11. Cannot believe he didn't started Palhinha and Leão in one bloody match this WC.

Well put. A coach can only select the proper players and develops a plan of play, after that it’s up to the players to perform . That’s all I ask . All too often with Santos , there were big questions about both . I want a coach to allow our players to play to our strengths . If we lose, we loose but at least we loose playing our game .

Be careful, they will say that what matters is winning even if we play shit on a stick football.

On a serious note we have to perform like a consistent top 8 team in the World, which we are, even if I have some reservations regarding the mental strength of some of our players.

Yesterday Felix was a good example of that. This new generation of players gets rich too soon in their carrers, they barely need to fight and play to become rich. We will see what happens.

Mourinho now comes out and says the FPF president said he was the only one they wanted for NT coach but he rejected it because he's happy in Roma. "I wasn't the first choice, but the only choice"

    Screw this dude

You realize everything you guys are saying is a contradiction.

You want a coach that selects the best 11. But you want a coach that plays to our style of soccer. (attacking and controlling the ball)

But if our best 11 doesn't consist of a strong midfield that control the ball how can we play attacking soccer?

Instead we have to resort to what we have had for the past 16 years. Solid defense with one super attacker to save the day and create space for a far less talented core.

Not sure how you can't see that.

While our mid-field is good enough to control the ball against the Swiss, Nigeria and other mid-level teams it is not to beat the top teams.

Take the games with top teams we would have to beat to win the Euro.

    France 2020 49% control - Loss
    France 2020 49% control - Tied
France 2021 53% control - Tied - And France Mid-Field has only gotten better and younger
    Spain 2022 68% control - Lost
    Spain 2021 61% control - Tied
    Spain 2021 66% control - Tied
    Germany 2021 58% control - Lost

So when you guys talk about playing attacking soccer I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

Our mid-field is now older, we don't have our wonder boy to score goals and our defense has lost its most solid player.

Our back four will be our young strength. We will struggle to control the ball against top teams. We will have to resort counter-attack soccer and hope someone saves the day.

Stop it man. We don't have the best squad in the World but stop talking about us as if we are Vanuatu playing football.

All of this is based on evidence under a coach that we all know sucked. Let's give the new coach a chance to show what he can do.

Palhinha has been a revelation, both him and Matheus Nunes are being heavily linked to Liverpool, Vitinha is a young cracking midfielder starting for PSG. Bernardo plays for City, Bruno stars for United. If the coach can get all these guys playing in the right positions and to their strengths... how is that not a world class midfield?
