Yeah. And Lowe is a two face. She’s bashed us plenty in the past. And she’s a friggin Palace supporter. But I still love her.

Speaking of love, Saka’s interview on Nbc was one of those that makes you really love that boy.

Was worried about how everyone would come back after the world cup...

    Absolutely no need to.

Great win, thought we were really stiff to give away that penalty. During the WC they would have called that. As is the way, I just ask for consistency. If they pay that against us this week, then when it inevitably happens against us then they better pay it.

Odegaard. Captains performance. And clearly he has been training on his disguised shot pass, a delicious tactic.

And that front three scoring was huge. Saka hasn't missed a beat and was really unlucky that first goal was offside, Martinelli did Martinelli things, and while he was in and out of the match a player like Nketiah isn't going to be dynamic like Jesus so hopefully he offsets that by maximising his goal scoring opportunities (also would have had an assist if that first Saka goal wasn't really unlucky to come off his heel in the build up).

He was onside, it was his slight touch than ran to Eddie that put Eddie offside.

    Saka is the one.

I’m normally the guy who argues that we don’t know these athletes and can’t judge them as people, but this kid is different. He legitimately seems like one of the best people full stop.

My love for him may be helped by the fact he’s ridiculously good at football also. :ROFLMAO:

Also loved Arteta’s interview when his first response to a question from Mustoe about how he’s able to get this from these players was basically ‘we have really good players’ while laughing maniacally.

True but the WHU made a play for the ball and it came off him slightly rendering the goal legally onside.

This is the best Arsenal team I've seen in since the mid-aughts.

He is a world superstar. I know our fans are worried about Saliba, but Saka is the one that every major club is going to want because the kids love him.

I keep thinking “how does Saka stand out?” and the answer I’ve kept coming back to is that he does everything well. He’s going to score goals by the bucket load in two years.

Also, just watched the extended highlights and the third goal was absurdly good: movement from side to side to create a half yard of space, and then Eddie did something completely bananas to move a defender one way, then turned the opposite way to create a foot of space.

I feel like this team really understands how to manipulate defenders with passing and off the ball movement.

I think we're right to worry more about Saliba due to his rough start and the club and not really knowing the nature of his relationship with Arteta. If PSG comes calling, he could push for a move.

Most fans see Saka as an academy kid who loves the club and is less likely to force his way out. It would probably take City or Newcastle throwing stupid 9-figure transfer fees at the Arsenal to get it done. Which wouldn't be the worst thing for the club, but Saka is irreplaceable.

Unless you want to board the Cozier-Duberry hype train, kid looks like a Saka clone.

How many games is it now that we've come back from 1-0?

IDK but the Arsecast shared an interesting state: We've trailed only 3 times this season and for a total of only 57 minutes. Wow.

And another nice discussion early in today's Arsecast is about Saliba. They mused on his apparent rustiness, and lack of match fitness, in general and in relation to the PK he gave up. Since he only came back into the squad a couple of days prior to matchday (after having been away from us for 5-6 weeks)

This reminded me of a "discussion" I was having a week or two ago in another thread(?) with @casoccerdad47 about whether Saliba would start this game. In the end, he was right in that Arteta clearly thought it was important enough to include him next to Big Gabi, even with so little training time with us. But perhaps there was also some truth to my speculation back then, that it might not be so prudent to start him after so little "integration time".

I was a bit surprised to see Saliba in the XI. I figured that since Holding had done an OK job (right?) in the friendlies, that he might get the nod. Though I confess to only have watched the highlights from 2 of those 3 games, and not the last loss to Juve. I just thought Arteta might throw Rob a bone for this one (and probably only) game, while Saliba regained his prior integration/fitness. Clearly I didn't read Arteta nor the situation correctly.

Also, I didn't get to watch yesterday's game at all closely, so without a rewatch I'm not sure I can say if Saliba looked relatively rusty, like Arseblog was saying. What say ye who watched it more closely?

p.s. I missed much of the first 30' due to traffic delays and then in-laws distraction. Then after 30' I was literally watching with two 90YO's, one of whom said "I don't understand offsides" and the other kept saying about 10X "now who are you rooting for again... the black team?" It was kind of comical. But I was really glad that I was able to catch our 3 goals more or less in real time, especially Eddie's!!

My FIL said "you know dear, I think <Northbank> might be more addicted to Arsenal than I am to the Yankees." I said "yeah, probably"

End of long, somewhat rambley post. Apologies

I know why most fans arent worried about Saka, but I am saying we should be.

Saka is becoming a global superstar and is starting to attract the attention of massive clubs like Madrid and Barca.

I know why we worry about Saliba, but Saka isn't a forgone conclusion at all.

Its why I think we will see big Saka deals like the one rumoured for Martinelli. The club has money to use atm, and I feel like they realise its better for the club to use that money to keep players like Saka and Martinelli who are becoming the fabric of this club, and becoming the face of Arsenal, and that losing them before they are 27 would be catastrophic.

As much as I'd love them to stay, I'm basically assuming we're fairly likely lose some (maybe many) of our key youngsters before they're 27YO. Either just because that happens... players don't stay at clubs for their entire career or even close to it... including the ones who've been with the club since they were 12YO or whatever. Or because the club moves more towards a business model of profiting off the youth it develops.

If we get 5 more good productive years out of Bukayo and then he moves on to some sort of new, green pasture, I wanna think I'll be OK with it. If that's what he really wants to do, we can't/shouldn't keep him in bondage. Let's see if I say the same unselfish thing when faced with losing him as a 26YO! But I hope I will.

Saka is worth 2x as much as Saliba on transfermarkt. He's already tied for the 6th most valuable player in the world, behind Mbappe, Haaland, Vini Jr, Bellingham and Foden, level with Pedri, Musiala and Valverde. For sure, every major club would want to sign him, only a few can afford him. Don't think Barca is one of them.

If Arsenal were sitting 8th in the table, I'd be far more concerned. Biggest reason for him to leave would be to chase trophies. City just gave Foden a new £225k/week deal. I don't seem them going above that for Saka. And I think Arsenal would match the Foden deal. I don't see anyone offering wages that would blow that out of the water and cause Saka to push for a move.

That's insane. I had no idea his value was that high. I guess emotionally I'm still stuck thinking of him as this kid we're still developing. While intellectually I know that he jjust was one of the best players at the WC. So of course he's worth every penny that he's valued at. But it's insane that that value is attached to the 21YO "kid" we developed.
