I think Fred has become the villain this WC. I wouldn’t show my face around Brasil for a while.

He did to himself though, I think it was against Serbia game that he was subbed in and did terrible and few minutes later they subbed him out of the game again. I knew right away he had no place in the team and shouldn't even be there at the world cup.

7X1 is not really Scolari's fault. That team was completely dependent on Neymar. Without Neymar (and Thiago Silva), they crumbled. Brazil 1998 also crumbled following R9's seizure episode. The fact that Scolari could take that weak Brazilian side to the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup is impressive. So, basically Scolari has won the World Cup and reached the semi-finals of another edition. No other Brazilian coach in this century (CAP included) can match that. In Brazil's history, only Zagalo is ahead.

I keep watching the replay of the goal and just get mad. He fcked up badly. Also the Danilo header was crazy. I think he was trying to head it to Pedro but it didn't seem to have much strength to it. So I saw Fred and Danilo can split the blame lol

In hindsight, Danilo should have headed that ball out of bounds if he did have a chance. It was probably more of a reaction header and the ball came to the left of his body so tough to redirect it where you want it.

It's honestly really tough for Pedro to get that ball and see that space open and not make that pass ... and Fred to not attack it. At the very least you start taking the ball to the corner and waste time, get a corner, or throw in. While we can blame Fred for being over aggressive on that whole sequence, I am also looking at the other players just standing there and not tracking back. Pedro is the only one that initially makes an attempt. I think they assumed that ball was also initially going out of bounds instead of the Croatian defender clearing it. Lost focus.

It's sad because rewatching the ET, we were hanging back well after the goal and doing what we were supposed to do to manage the game off. Shows you that in these games you can't really relax one second.

I highly recommend Rafa Oliveira's comparison of Brazil x Croatia and Argentina x Croatia where he points out how shallow that is and breaks down the matchups that actually mattered.

Watching it. First 7 mins I was going to write up the same point. I'd add that generally they didn't try to deny Danilo the ball by marking him as they did with Casemiro. They gave Danilo time on the ball because they knew he is not as good of a passer. I'd have to rewatch but I don't remember Neymar dropping as much in that gap. We did start the game trying to invert the ball a few times to Vin Jr. to catch Croatia's RB with a 1 v 1. It's a good point that he makes saying that the result of Danilo pinching in, it made their midfield more crowded and tougher to advance through.

I also found that our pressing up top wasn't coordinated and therefore not effective and I think that was key for Croatia's "dominance" of the midfield. There was often either 1 or 2 up front pressing the ball and also the midfield and defense weren't high enough to compresses the space behind the front 3. Perhaps that was planned.

Someone else pointed out just how injured Richarlison was. Obviously he stayed on for much of the game, so it's not as though he couldn't play, but that does have an effect on the pressing. Essentially the pressing we chose ended up not working because of the pieces we had and the outlet they had to relieve the pressure.

Watched the rest of the video and it was spot on. The press was ineffective and it's what I noticed with Vin Jr. a few times being ineffective pressing. And our left side was an avenue and served as an escape valve for Croatia in the 1st half.

The problem is we played a 4-3-3 with Neymar not having the responsibility of consistently coming back and maintain shape. So you have to start tinkering with other position to compensate for it and that creates spaces where good teams can exploit. In Croatia's case it was mostly to keep us from building momentum.

Rewatching the game Militão and TS were truly sensational. Casemiro was good for most of the game defensively but his passing was off.
