Unfortunately, our 빨리빨리 culture prevents us from doing so, coupled with our inept top-brass at the KFA. There needs to be a change from the top down.
Careful with that. Flexibility in football is necessary when a team faces different situations. In AFC, nice, modern football works. In World Cups, pragmatism is needed.
Okay, but Bento certainly wasn't flexible enough. As much as I respect him for successfully leaving Korea as a NT with improved build-up, he only focused on that. In order for Korea to progress in world football, the approach needs to be "jack of all trades". Yeah, master of none, but even my homeland, who supposedly have the best midfield in the world, are going to park the bus against Brazil tomorrow. Before Dalić, we didn't do this. Then, he tried defensive football against France in the League of Nations, and it worked. To be fair, when we had possession, we kept it using our technical ability. So, Bento's lessons could be useful in this "anaesthesia" football when applied against better teams. But having a manager who will let the team practice defending deep is useful.
It's funny how one single nutmeg through ball changes the manager's legacy. Imagine if Son's pass failed, and Korea got knocked out in the group stage. Bento's tenure would be considered a failure.
If often does in sports... one bounce of the ball here and there... based on the result, some live in legend status and some forgotten... Luck and chance play a big part in sports... and in life. Just got to be prepared to meet luck when it presents itself to you...
It is also funny that this Japanese team is ranked above Korea's 2002 by many as the greatest Asian side in history. Just 2 mm to the outside direction would have knocked them out(Germany did not even have to score the 4th goal) and they would have been considered failure by Japanese fans. Their match statistics are very poor, outplayed in almost every match.
it really isnt the nutmeg that won me over and made me change my views on Bento Really for me what it comes down to with any manager of the NT, its how hard they play for him. That to me is the truest sign is when you can tell the players respect him, bottomline. Thats good enough for me.
People tend to glorify the intangibles but that is just glorified superstition. People want to build lore and legends in soccer because that makes soccer look something more than just a game of chance. Soccer if officiated by a machine will make WC format look stupid. Referees, even though they are told not to, interfere in ways that stronger sides more consistently win than the true chance allows. The more objective analysis will tell you that Italy are a great soccer power largely because referees helped them. In 2002 Korea were lucky but Italy deserved what they got. But with luck Italy could have won too. The myth that Korea made the semi because the entire nation united in one spirit blah blah blah is just BS. Korea were mainly lucky but other factors were there too but it is highly unlikely Korea will repeat the result under the same condition. In this WC vs Portugal Korea were lucky, vs Brazil unlucky but some foul plays by the referee are involved as well. Japan were incredibly lucky and some VAR decisions are fishy. One should marvel at close VAR decisions going 100 percent for them. FIFA is onto something. They will make Japan World Champions in a not too distant future. In a game there are certain things that should have been done and others that should have been avoided. But it is common that the fans draw excessive moral lessons and argue forever around it. You can lose even if you did everything right and can win even if you did everything wrong. It is just a game. Not even a beautiful game, but just a game.
It's always been the same with previous managers though; show a good performance and you'll see incoming praises, but one little dip in performance and you've got the public chewing the managers ears off. We humans are one fickle POS lol.
That's the benefit of having a good leader by your side for 4 years. Obviously, 4 years can be a hit or a miss depending on who the manager is, and you could end up with wasted time under a fraud like Stielike. But, under Bento's leadership, our players have built a strong bond not only amongst each other but with the entire coaching staff as well, and we've witnessed what great team chemistry that has come about from Bento's tenure. The most important part of it all is that he truly cared for our players and even went as far as to say that they need better care even outside of football while adding that the KFA doesn't give a rip about their well-being. It's really unfortunate that he's leaving considering the KFA basically threw Bento away like an empty soda can with their garbage 1+3 contract; I would've much rather preferred to have him for another 4 years than some 국내 호구 who won't even manage make it that far.
i'm happy he went out the way he did, with the players behind him and a proper send off. Deserves it and It makes life easier for the KFA to solicit should they choose a foreign hire, not that they deserve it though
truly sad and pathetic. Now everyone's out of coins to feed you kibble. This I mean genuinely, I hope you get some love from your family, friends and loved ones over the holidays. Your world does not have to be so bleak and dreary.
People so easily forget and forgive how Bento screwed up AC 2019. He did so much damage to Korea and now suddenly he is a hero because Korea made R16 with some incredible luck. As I said lore and legends are built to make soccer look like more than just a game of chance. Maradona's the hand of god is now seen as a sign of greatness and is a part of football legends. Suarez' doing Mike Tyson is seen in a similar light.(Yeah it is wrong but just the passion blah blah) These South American racist fools are too easily forgiven and are given way too much credit. They are just dumb jocks who probably cannot be taught even elementary probability. These two are seemingly unrelated(actually I was momentarily confused as to why I wrote them together) but they illustrate the contingent and accidental nature of football legends. Bento could easily have been a villain who did nothing but heart breaking damages to Korean soccer. Maradona could have been just a buffoon albeit with an exceptional ball handling ability if he lost that game and ended up without the WC title. I am sure even if Maradona had failed he would have been talked around the fans as a great talent never fulfilling his potential but there is only a thin line that separates legends and could-have-been's.
??? I dont see the logic here Words probably out or will be out how bad this administration blows All these goodole boys care about is their own fat paycheck and probably which hostess bar theyre going to next while the NT continues to wallow ad infintum
Thanks. Oršić assisted for the equalizer and scored a cheeky penalty as well. So, a bit of nice things for Koreans to notice. But we are zombies. Unkillable. Just like in the games, Brazil emptying a clip into us, but we kept going, and tore their throat out. No Crimson Head, no Licker, this was a Hunter or a Tyrant!
Why the pessimism... What a win, congratulations. I knew as soon as I saw Rodrygo walking up, that it would be bye bye for Brazil. His face was full of hesitation.
