Seattle Sounders and USYNT midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting has been scouted by Liverpool, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, I'm told. RBW, 16, has made four MLS apps this year. Obviously very early, but noteworthy these kind of clubs are on notice.https://t.co/RSItXPvxc3— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) October 6, 2021 Reed Baker-Whiting #21 • Midfielder • Seattle Sounders FC Supplemental Slots 29-30 Height 5' 11" Weight 154 lbs Date of Birth 3.31.2005 (16) Birthplace WA USA Position Midfielder https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/seat...g-generating-interest-from-uefa-champions-lea https://www.soundersfc.com/news/sea...g-becomes-latest-academy-alum-join-first-team According to the article, he doesn't have an EU/EEA passport.
Back for training overseas with Real Sociedad: Just training. Baker-Whiting is on the radar of a ton of clubs but no Euro passport, can't leave the US until the first window after his 18th birthday (summer of 2023).Sociedad, as you remember, will sign American Jonathan Gomez from Louisville on Jan 1https://t.co/n2DaHXI7SG— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 15, 2021
Werder Bremen expressed interest recently: More pragmatically, it means virtually all of these players are being scouted by clubs all over Europe. As an example, Bundesliga's Werder Bremen just inquired about Reed Baker Whiting. Doesn't mean an offer is imminent but he's on teams' radars.— Jeremiah Oshan (@JeremiahOshan) September 29, 2022 Named to The Guardian's list of best young talent in the world: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...0-of-the-best-young-talents-in-world-football
Now at Freiberg for a training stint: High praise for Reed Baker-whiting, who I’m told us currently training with bundesliga’s Freiburg. https://t.co/0MaFGnQLL7 pic.twitter.com/HJ2Ed7bZJi— Jeremiah Oshan (@JeremiahOshan) December 7, 2022
Freiburg loan is a possibility: https://www.sounderatheart.com/soun.../12/7/23498410/reed-baker-whiting-sc-freiburg
Was about to post this. He's been used mostly as a RB but has been impressing enough that it sounds like he may get the 18 month loan with option to buy deal
You shouldn't be making loans to teams unless that player is projected to help the club right away. MLS organizations should have learned that lesson the hard way already.
They don't make the decision at the end of the day, outside of vetoing options beyond MLS. Even if the players haven't figured it out this was a bad strategy, clubs should to get a return on their investment. Thus it'd behoove them to only accept full transfers or loans not beyond the player's pay grade.
They should. If they have enough minutes for the player, and believe his price will increase. What's not necessary the case for this kid. Playing MLS Next does nothing for him. He might be not a blue chip prospect.
This source (take its credibility with a grain of salt) says he's ready to sign in Germany: Agent MLS @AgenttMLS Third. It was reported that RBW trained with Freiburg. According to my sources he will join the club when he turns 18.
Rumor that Wolverhampton is taking a look: English Premier League club Wolverhampton is scouting Seattle Sounders homegrown duo Obed Vargas and Reed Baker-Whiting, sources with knowledge of the situation tell The Athletic. Sources were granted anonymity as they are not cleared to discuss the details publicly. https://theathletic.com/4519660/2023/05/15/mls-univision-rivalry-week/ (sub required)
