we get a lot of shit for losing 2-1 to Japan but so did Spain who saved themselves with that 7-0 W. had we done something similar vs Costa Rica and it was possible as we did hit post 3 times and had tons of chances we could have eliminated them.
Lets be fair to the Japanese team. They didn't cower when trailing. We weren't clinical. And once we conceded, we panicked further. And never got our rhythm apart from that Goretzka effort.
my post wasn't being unfair to Japanese. Just saying we get shit for losing but so did Spain and now Croatia could be headed to ET. I also blame Neuer for the goals, should have done better.
Flick is actually pissed AT BASTI.......... https://www.planetsport.com/soccer/...ts-back-bastian-schweinsteiger-world-cup-exit
Clearly they were missing something. A team of that quality doesn't do a GS exit unless something key is missing. I leave it up to the experts to figure out what. I would tend to side with Basti.
I think they also got lucky they played costa rica the weakest time in the group first.. which favored them.. they had less pressure going into the final 2 games
Kicker: Fredi Bobic is the early favorite to become the successor of Oliver Bierhoff as the general manager of the German national team. The reaction from everyone is like "okay, Bierhoff can stay in that case"
Another one who stayed too long and should have been out after the EM in 2016, or at least 2018. Him and Löw staying after 2016 really set us back and prevented the rejuvenation needed after the 2006-2016 generation started to retire and get passed it. They should have gone out on top because they both deserved better than their miserable end. Sammer is the name thrown out by the Bild here. Personally I prefer him over Fredi.
Agree, losing the first game in a group stage leaves very small margin for error especially when we had to play Spain next. At least if we played Costa Rica next and Spain last we would have had a better control over our own destiny. However, this isnt an excuse and shouldnt be used as one. We lacked the killer instinct in all our games simple as that, and that issue was quite obvious at the Nations league as well we just couldnt put teams away and continually gave up leads in the last 20-25 mins. This team is not terminal and there is enough quality in there to work with, but with only 18 months for the 2024 at home there is no time to waste. As Lahm said we have to reinvent our football, and I still believe Flick is the right man to do it, I truly believe had he got the job a year earlier this world cup would have turned out differently
Thank you Yes and no I was on here back in the days of Hendricks ForeverRed and few others, went on hiatus for few years (only posting on German forums) and now back on here as i enjoy different points of view.
LahmFan and the others left around NOV 2016.... Anyway was allot of abuse in those days, the group here now are decent and good opinions
Rumors starting to circle about Tuchel as a replacement for Flick if he decides to resign. Flick's statement about Bierhoff resigning was quiet interesting.
Yep. The DFB is still a mess and i truly believe the results wont get better till the DFB is fixed. Neuendorf has to take some responsibility too, i know he only took office in March but the whole "one love" debacle happened on his watch and should have been resolved with Fifa long before the world cup. Up till the game against Japan thats what everyone was talking about, players were barely asked about football at press conference and if you believe the rumors it did cause some tension between certain players. Looks like they have learnt nothing from the Özil saga right before the 2018 WC.
Tuchel would have been perfect after 2021. Point out all the flaws with the team, hold no hostages with the players, win the WC through tactical genius, and promptly get fired right after. In all seriousness though this guy is crazy for football.
IMO the One Love fiasco is being overstated. Also, FIFA are clearly to blame here just as they are over the Budweiser sponsorship. Not only germany was angry about this!
Germany were the only team to protest against FIFA in such a way, every member of the team will have known that the picture of them holding their mouths would go viral and would probably become a meme (which it has). That's an unneccesary distraction and pressure to take on and should have been dealt with at a higher level not left to the players. It was by no means the only reason we lost to Japan, but it was another example of weak and disjointed leadership on and off the pitch, which will always lead to failure.
Dont think Fifa is innocent in all this either and I still believe the world cup in a country like Qatar makes 0 sense. I just think the DFB should have handled it differently when they knew if Fifa threatened with yellow cards they were going to cave and not go ahead with it. It Was an unneeded distraction.
