Very legitimate Court Justice Alito is greeted by the Federalist Society after Dobbs https://t.co/fXn50tvzke— southpaw (@nycsouthpaw) November 11, 2022
Still working on the Dobbs leaker I guess. Now we have a classic contraception case, Hobby Lobby, which may have been leaked to an evangelical activist. A former evangelical activist claimed in a letter to the Chief Justice of the United States that he knew about the outcome of a 2014 Supreme Court decision involving contraception and the Affordable Care Act by the court prior to the formal announcement, according to The New York Times. Rev. Rob Schenck wrote in the letter this summer to Chief Justice John Roberts, which was originally obtained by the Times, that he was informed by a wealthy political donor, Gayle Wright, about the verdict of the ruling prior to it coming out. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/19/poli...sion-leak-hobby-lobby-samuel-alito/index.html
They’re not going to let this drop. The GQP SCOTUS is working to destroy a Democratic way of life. I don’t think they can continue to operate in almost total secrecy and without a code of ethics as if that is somehow essential to their independence. https://t.co/4UBBw7wzgZ— Brian Schatz (@brianschatz) November 21, 2022 John Roberts is going to wish he had never gutted the VRA.
I didn't think DJT could continue to operate as a free man almost 2 years post Jan. 6th. But here we are.
Biden’s student debt release on the chopping block: BREAKING: The Supreme Court will hear arguments on President Biden's student debt forgiveness program in February, blocking its rollout until then. https://t.co/Lshj6Gm72k— NPR (@NPR) December 1, 2022
And fighting out of the red corner. From Trumplandia with a record of Not Giving A Fvck About Burdening Young People, we have the states' attorney general! In court papers lawyers for the states, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas and South Carolina told the justices the program should remain on pause, especially because the Biden administration has announced an extension of the payment pause until 2023. Nebraska Attorney General Douglas J. Peterson told the justices that Biden's debt relief program is an "unlawful attempt to erase over $400 billion of the 1.6 trillion in federal student loan debt and eliminate all remaining loan balances for roughly 20 million of 43 million borrowers."
It’s a problem when the final arbiter of the law becomes lawless partisans. The student loan case is now the *18th* case since February 2019 in which #SCOTUS has granted certiorari “before judgment” — expediting a merits dispute by bypassing the intermediate federal appeals courts. From 8/2004–2/2019, it didn’t grant certiorari before judgment *once.* pic.twitter.com/3dnLeHNGob— Steve Vladeck (@steve_vladeck) December 1, 2022
Oh I'm pretty sure of how they'll rule in as case: SUPREME COURT Supreme Court leans toward web designer over refusal to work on same-sex weddings The justices are considering whether web designer Lorie Smith, a conservative evangelical Christian, has a free-speech right that trumps Colorado's antidiscrimination law. By Lawrence Hurley WASHINGTON — Conservative Supreme Court justices on Monday appeared sympathetic toward an evangelical Christian web designer’s bid to avoid working on same-sex weddings as they weighed the latest clash between religious conservatives and LGBTQ rights. But after two-and-a-half hours of arguments that included a broad array of tough hypothetical questions directed at both sides, involving far-fetched scenarios like a "Black Santa" at a shopping mall refusing to serve children dressed in Ku Klux Klan outfits, it is unclear how exactly the court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, will rule. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/su...designers-refusal-work-sex-weddings-rcna59852
Seems like a web of lies: 2/ @FoxNews never reported that no gay couple has ever asked Ms. Smith to design a website for their wedding because Ms. Smith’s wedding website design business DOES NOT EXIST https://t.co/maZK4ZVtxd pic.twitter.com/aiqOOSTOUn— Bad Fox Graphics (@BadFoxGraphics) December 6, 2022
I saw that too. Not even a going concern. So I guess this plant is ticking off the "won't design for queers" box off the business plan.
